If John is so great, then why do you need to trash Paul? I don't see how saying "Well he did WAY more than Paul" will make his achievements any more worthwhile. Shouldn't John's accomplishments speak for themselves?
You're so vain, you probably think this post is about you.

Personally, I would think that should be the case. The fact is - IMO - John's accomplishments are no greater than Paul's. I really cannot see why any sane person would think so. 'John did a lot for peace'. My arse, he dropped it like a lead balloon when it wasn't working for him. What else did he do? Why is writing Strawberry Fields, and A Day In The Life a greater achievement than writing Paperback Writer, All My Loving, or Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End? Why is he a genius? Compared to Mozart he's a nobody. In fact, in terms of peace and humanitarianism, compared to the likes of Bono, or even Bob Geldof, he's not on the same continent.
I'm not saying that he wasn't a good musician, or even a great one at times, but I really don't understand the genius thing, and never will.
I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.
It's all a matter of taste. For mine, compared to Beethoven or Tchaikovsky Wolfgang Amadeus was a nobody--can "The Jupiter" symphony (or even his "Magic Flute") compare to Ludvig Van's 5th or 9th?...or even Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture" or "Pathetique"?? ..not in my book. Mozart is just a lot of trite "happy music" w/ little passion like the composers I mentioned above. Just a matter of taste. ..and Lennon was a music great who has just as much stature as your Mozart, Bartok, Strauss, Handel, and YES, even the great Bach.
Well, I mentioned Mozart, but it could have been any of the others that you mentioned. We will always disagree on this one Kevin. Such is life. Thankfully.

If we're going to compare a Beatle to the likes of Mozart or Beethoven, then wouldn't it make more sense to use McCartney? I mean, he is known more as a master tunesmith whereas John is more the gifted lyricist. But personally I think the both shined in each arena at some point. As a team they were as good as a Mozart or Beethoven, but separately? Not sure about that.
" And WHEN did he go around saying what a genius he was??? (no, that's PAUL's specialty)
"Yes, if there is such a thing as one, I am one. — People like me are aware of their so-called genius at ten, eight, nine. . . . I always wondered, “Why has nobody discovered me?'' In school, didn't they see that I'm cleverer than anybody in this school? That the teachers are stupid, too? That all they had was information that I didn't need? I got…lost in being at high school. I used to say to me auntie, “You throw my…poetry out, and you'll regret it when I'm famous, '' and she threw the bastard stuff out. I never forgave her for not treating me like a…genius or whatever I was, when I was a child. It was obvious to me. Why didn't they put me in art school? Why didn't they train me? Why would they keep forcing me to be a…cowboy like the rest of them? I was different, I was always different. Why didn't anybody notice me? A couple of teachers would notice me, encourage me to be something or other, to draw or to paint - express myself. But most of the time they were trying to beat me into being a…dentist or a teacher. And then the…fans tried to beat me into being a…Beatle or an Engelbert Humperdinck, and the critics tried to beat me into being Paul McCartney.”
