I haven't done a poll, because I'm sure I'd leave some key ones out.
I'll start off - I like his solo on Get Back a lot. He's very busy there, doing quick transitions between lead and rhythm. But the lead even by itself is nice! |

"You Can't Do That" has a great solo. He always got a great groove, playing rhythmic chords rather than just a single line. I think he was underrated as a guitarist; he was certainly better than George until about '67, at least in the studio. |

Here's some I know about: 1) You Can't Do That, as mentioned by Chris, above. 2) Long Tall Sally 3) Yer Blues (the first one, rhythmic chords, etc.; George does the high piercing one) 4) Get Back 5) Ballad of John and Yoko? Not sure about that 6) Something, and While My Guitar Gently Weeps (kidding!) |

Good call on #5 -- in the interview at the beginning of Recording Sessions, Paul says that he didn't play any guitars on "Ballad," so it must have been John overdubbing those extra parts. (Or perhaps Mal. ) |

i will go with Get Back & You Can't Do That. he could play when he wanted to! It's interesting to note how many solo's John & Paul did throughout the Beatles recording career. But of course George was the main man! |

Oh, and of course I should add his guitar solo on "The End"! The first part of that solo always sounded a bit like his solo in Get Back, and the second part like in Yer Blues... |

Would it be correct to also add the solo in "Honey Pie"? Someone mentioned in one of these threads a while back that John did that solo. It seems far too restrained for the typical John solo IMO, but if others know better, I'll put it on the list! Thanks! |

I don't think John would've contributed to that song if Paul had put a warm gun to his head. |

Well apparently he may have! ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honey_Pie , courtesy of another poster who also found this supported in Lewisohn. It is a pretty solo, John must have been very pensive at the moment! |

How strange....he always said he hated it. (Of course, he said he hated a lot of his own songs as well, so maybe that's not saying much.) |
