Hello all! I'm just looking for a little advice. In August, I will be moving to England and attending college. Since I will be using my current university's Study Abroad program, I only have three colleges to choose from which: Hertfordshire (in Hatfield), Leicester, and Keele. For all of you who live over there or have visited any of those places, can you give me some advice on which I should pick? I'm not so much interested in the colleges as I am the location of the colleges, since I'm not exactly going over there to "study."

I have to make a decision by February. I don't have a clue about any of these cities, so any feedback is appreciated!

And any tips you have for me while I am over there is welcome as well of course! I trust the locals know better than any travel book.

Wow!

Where abouts in England you moving to?

Tip: Move anywhere except Redditch or Birmingham .. Well Redditch really because B'ham has many good places, An egg is more entertaining than Redditch:/

Unfortunatley I live here and plan to kill myself if i don't move from here..

Thats your top tip of England..

Also, be aware of English Chavs.. theyre not nice. Got my Ipod & phone nicked off em

xoxo

What's an English Chav?

I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.

They are people who;
Wear hoodies
Listen to R&B, Hip hop, Rap
Wear Playboy
Cause trouble
Do drugs
Hang around in gangs
Mug you.
And are all the same as everyone else.

Hatfield is nearest to London which is where all major roads, trains, planes and buses go to and from.I've no idea if it's a nice place.
If you haven't got a car this seems the obvious choice for travelling.
If you do have a car then the other places may well be nicer. They're a bit further north so nearer by car to Scotland, Wales and .. Liverpool.I think Keele's got a good reputation.

Here's an amusing definition of chav (and chavette!). Chavs themselves though are not amusing and to be avoided.

chav (noun)- 1 Anyone wearing any kind of burberry clothing 2 A youth usually, although not neccessarily in his or her teens who has an undying belief that they are the hardest and coolest individual to have ever walked this planet. The male chav is distinguishable by his birght colours and imitaion gold jewellry which he uses to attract chavettes (see next). Any eye contact will be met with a tirade of abuse assuming the chav is with his herd. 3 Chavette A female chav who is distinguishable by the use of earings resting on her shoulders, very innapropriate clothing, and a pram. Chavettes are very rarely seen on their own and prefer to hang around with the dominant chav in their herd, usually the father of their child. 4 Chavish the dialect of the chav. Believing that he is a bad boy gangsta rapper, the chav or chavette will converse with others in a secrect language. Scientists have been working for years on trying to decipher chavish but to no avail. Other than swear words that you will manage to pick out, you will not understand any of this tirade; simply assume its not pleasant and probably involves your parents and a dog. (see example)

What's an English Chav?

we have them in Scotland there called Neds, Chav is just a new word started around the time when people like Wayne Rooney and girlfriend, Danielle Westbrook and a few other started wearing Burberry religiously.

i remember reading how pissed of Burberry were as theyre target buyer was hollywood A-list and at one point all of hollywood was wearing there stuff, then it became uncool as all the chavs started wearing it and they stopped putting there line out.

WICKED !!!!!

I visited the websites for all three schools and Keele seems the most dynamic.  Don't know what your interests are academically, but Keele seems to be high-tech.

It looks like Keele is the farthest from London and probably the most out of the way.   (Not far from Liverpool, though).  Hatfield's closest to London but may be more expensive.

If I were doing a study abroad I'd probably want to be closest to London--for music, museums, history, theater, etc.  Especially for a first-time stay in UK.

You're getting a little North with Keele and even Leicester.

But mostly I'd watch out for those Chavs.  Or Neds who have wandered South.

I didn't mean anything against chavs, I'm mostly down on neds.  Although a pregnant 13 yr old chav is a bit disturbing.

In the words of Stephanie Tanner..."How Rude!"

"Wings IV introduced Jimmy McCulloch, a spunky lead guitarist with grit, able to spur Paul on unlike any previous soloist. His debut track, the magnificent single `Junior's Farm', stands as one of Wings' finest emotional and technical releases."

"Few people on this planet know as much about Jimmy's musical history than you."

I think it would be interesting to drop these guys off on some random street in South Central and see what happens. I would just be real curious as to how that worked itself out.
