HandMade Films made some great movies from 1978 to 1990 and George Harrison was a skilled producer of these films ,his Company brought us some truly memorable productions :

Time Bandits (1981 )
A Private Function (1984)
The Missionary (1982 )
Mona Lisa ( 1986 )
Nuns On The Run (1990)
Withnail & I (1987)

So let's hear it for George the movie mogul , and let's praise these great films .
My personal favorite is " Withnail & I " , i must have seen this film 50 times and it still cracks me up Richard E. Grant for me gives one of the all time great  performances in this film , he's outrageously funny . I can imagine George sat on the sofa with Olivia roaring with Laughter to this one.
And along with  " Life Of Brian "  i think they are among George's best post Beatles projects ,excluding his fine music , not a bad little company HandMade Films , and i know he lost quite a bit of money in the end , but the quality of these films will live on   ?

And Let's not forget "Shanghai Supprise "

I'm ashamed to say that only one of these I've seen is The Life Of Brian. Evidently I need to get out of the house more often, if only to the extent of driving to a video store.

I've seen:

Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979) - CLASSIC! Absolute must-see. Next to Holy Grail, the best Python film ever.

Time Bandits (1981) - Charming and in places thought-provoking. Delightful film with great George song at the end.

Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl (1982) - a must for any Python fan's library.

The Missionary (1982) - I don't remember this one as well. I guess it's lower on my list.

The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (1989) - Weirdly charming. Some wonderful scenes.

Thanks for the recommendation. I did in fact find a video store open today, but all it had was Life Of Brian and, you guessed it, Shanghai Surprise. Not going to be Madge night at my house, I'm afraid.

I suggest renting The Long Good Friday and Mona Lisa, two fabulous British gangster films.

Bob Hoskins really shines. What a tough guy.

Handmade films was an important company during the lean years of British film making in the 1980's ,and had a number of critical and commercial success , it also had some Turkey's .
