So many great songs.
But Nirvanna's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" must win it for me. It was the first time in years (and the last since) since a song made the hairs on my kneck stand up. IMO the greatest single of all time.

I went with "Losing My Religion." Used to hear it all the time in Bloor Street shops in the Annex in Toronto in the early nineties.

"Nothing Compares 2 U" was the first song I thought of when I saw this title.

I would vote for a Radiohead song, but Creep did not do the trick for me. Anything from The Bends or OK Computer. The Manic's Motorcycle Emptiness used to be a favourite as well. Supergrass. Blur. Jeff Buckley. Tonic. And I still like Black Eyed by Placebo.

yeah theres a lot of good bands who i would definitly put forward for best song of the 90s there dave but maybe not the songs selected for them.

supergrass - moving, mary, caught by the fuzz......
radiohead - just, lucky, karma police, paranoid android
pulp- common people, disco 2000
blur - universal, charmless man, theres no other way, for tommorow, to the end
just another few

I loved Ironic because it was just some interesting lyrics. I always wondered how she came up with all those different moments.

Hm. It was difficult to chose. There was a lot of good music in the 90's.

Nirvana.  Smells Like Teen Spirit.  Great band, great song.  That song pretty much was my life in jr high. it's just one of those songs that you can seriously identify with in everyway.  Even though you couldn't really tell what he was saying
Just the sound and his voice, it just is perfect.

Off the list it's a toss up between Radiohead and Nirvana. I like Love Shack by The B52's, It's My Life by Talk Talk, Madonna's Ray Of Light.

I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.

I voted "One Sweet Day" a month ago... What I was thinking?
There's no doubt the best single of the 90's was Guns n' Roses "November Rain". Stunning piece of art.

"One"...it took some time for me to get into (at first I was a bit underwhelmed as I had read on various music lists that it is one of the greatest songs of all time, and didn't think it was anything too special).  But after going through a breakup about a year and a half ago, the words really meant a lot to me...I began to see what had happened from both sides (at first, when I was very angry, I pictured myself singing that song to her, then I started to picture it the other way around), and I began to see that I was being bitter, and prayed that I would forgive her.

Too late
Tonight
To drag the past out into the light
We're one, but we're not the same
We get to
Carry each other
Carry each other

I realized that there is no point in holding grudges.  Yeah, everybody hurts each other in this world.  We need to let it go.  We will become bitter and angry if we sit around and wait for justice.  And vengeance really doesn't make us feel any better.  It leaves us feeling empty.

With the help of God, I am now completely at peace with her (and I have been for over a year now), and we honestly are now good friends.  So that song has very powerful, yet uplifting memories for me.
