Yeah, I went there! I figure if we're going to have a thread about the best looking rock stars we should have one about the best dressed rock stars.

Jimi Hendrix. I loved that whole Electric Gypsy look he had going on.

Debbie Harry- Gwen Stefani owes a lot to this woman.

Prince. I like purple, too.

Mick Jagger. His wives had great tastes in clothes as well.

David Bowie. Somehow, he just pulls it off.

Bif Naked. I tried to find some better pics. She did an awesome spread for Teen People , if you can believe it, back in 1999 or 2000 or so...

Bob Dylan, in every period. Scruffy working-class vagabond, angry black "f***-the-establishment" look with sunglasses, and of course the Rolling Thunder look with all those hippie vests and the whiteface.

You're so vain, you probably think this post is about you.

I have to agree 100% with you on Hendrix.

How about Elvis?  And I'm talking early-pre-army Elvis, not fat caped-sequin Elvis

Cool thread Mairi!

Good choices for sure. Mick made a few poor decisions along the way though. With all those
drugs though, who wouldn't.The whole football uniform thing he had going in the eighties definitely
wasn't his finest moment.

BTW, it's okay that you went there Mairi! Why do people get all snobby when discussing music and rock stars? Their image IS a part of it. Musicians know this. Why do you think they go to such lengths to create a look? So it's a legitimate thing to discuss. Not all threads can be cerebral. Please. Human beings like to look at appealing things. Big surprise. So discussing it is only natural.

Anyway...

The pioneers:
Jim again. How iconic is this look? How many losers did we then have to watch prance around
on stage in tight leather pants thanks to Jim? Not too many guys can pull it off like he did!

Keith Moon and the whole mod look. He had a cool look going before he bloated out. And I've
noticed it's making a comeback. Which is a good thing. Way better than the hippy clothes
of that era! It's just sad that most people who wear those shirts probably have no idea
who Keith Moon is!

Joe Strummer. Loved his look. The ties. The mismatched outfits. The sneakers and leather.
How much does Billy Joe Armstrong want to be him? You can just tell. Another guy whose look was copied to the point where people forget the original.

Johnny Rotten. Ripped up shirts, flaming red hair, and safety pins. Perfect.

Syd Barrett. How many people did his look influence?? Bowie, Bolan, and Robert Smith are a few. Who wore
eyeliner and permed their hair before Syd? The whole Goth look has to stem from this.

And of course John Lennon. Loved the all white look. The military look. The jesus look.
So iconic. Even Harry Potter wears the glasses.

I hated his eighties look though. Too preppy or something. I prefer Ziggy over the Thin White Duke. Or whatever they called him!

Lennon always had great style. Even in the early days with all the hats and stuff. The guy was just SO cool.

Now this man's got class. Come on girls!

I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.
