How many of you have friends that are Beatles fans? I have a grand total of one, which makes places like this even more invaluable. Which is why it was so refreshing, not to say surprising, to be chatting to an Irish bloke in the pub yesterday when he - very sheepishly - mentioned that he loved The Beatles! A few hours later I had a new mate and had had a very enjoyable and interesting chat.
His opinion was pretty much as mine, that you can't really talk about them without fear of ridicule from people who don't know what they're talking about. Even your own friends!
Sometimes I think there is a God!
I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.
I have no Beatles fan friends. My sister introduced me to the Anthology, but I have long since left her in the dust in terms of interest.
It's always delightful running across someone in real life who also likes the Beatles. I do a lot of reading, and many authors still, to this decade, frequently drop in references to the Beatles. I just ran across one last week, where the author was congratulating himself on having lived to the ripe old age of 47, noting that along the way he passed Martin Luther King and "one of the Beatles", among other people.
It's part of why they fascinate me so much. They're a kind of common social language. If you "get" the Beatles, or experienced them, or what have you, you suddenly have worlds in common to explore.
Cool news about your new mate!
All you've got to do is choose love. That's how I live it now. I learned a long time ago, I can feed the birds in my garden. I can't feed them all. -- Ringo Starr, Rolling Stone magazine, May 2007
For all I know, Ringo might be a yogi disguised as a drummer! - George Harrison
^ i don't get your point though i'm quite curious.
my sister likes them a little bit. but she doesn't know most of their songs, i mean her fave song is a taste of honey. i have a friend who loves the song yellow submarine and sometimes we sing it together while other people give us weird looks. my cousin doesn't know them very well but we talk about the paul is dead thing, sometimes. a lot of my friends know and love the song yesterday but that doesn't count. so no, i don't have a beatles fan friend.

I used to work in record stores in Toronto, and Beatles records were always consistent sellers, but the band wasn't exactly "hip," if you know what I mean. I'd been a big fan myself since the late seventies, but if you wanted to pick up girls you were better off wearing a more current t-shirt. But The Beatles' fans were the sorts who usually really knew their stuff: they'd come in asking for very specific things like Japanese pressings or wondering if any of us knew where copies of something like Ultra Rare Trax could be found. It was a great way to find out what was worth having. I remember bringing a vinyl copy of Sessions back with me from Los Angeles at the end of one summer ('86 or' 87, probably), and ending up making at least six tape copies of it over the next few weeks for guys who hung around the store. I got tape copies of other people's boots the same way.
I have one friend I can really talk to the Beatles about, but we are slowly drifting apart. My boyfriend hates them, and I don't really see anyone else, with full time school and 2 part time jobs. So I mostly get out my beatles conversations on here.
Looking through the bent backed tulips to see how the other half lives.
I've a friend who likes The Beatles , he's a record collector and my nephew Theo is getting into them , so with me that makes three and three's a crowd
i have 2 one of them, one of them is the drummer in my band, so we occasionally try to slip in snippets of beatles songs during practice, but usually last about 3 seconds as the rest of the guys are anti beatles lol.
the other is a beatles fan and a macca fan on top of that which is good as i can ask him to get tickets to see him if his world tour parks at scotland
but i dont get conversations about them like i do on here, any debate or discussion we get into quickly turns into a who is the best beatle with them lol.
the only real Beatle fan i know is my Uncle & i don't know anyone else. i have a friend who does love the later stuff but is always critizing the early stuff. that does get me angry at times. but i don't know anyone else that goes as deep into them as i do. i get in desperate need of talking about my heroes, so i do access on the net, especially DM's!!
It's been a Hard Days Night & i've been working like a dog!
I have a co-worker who grew up listening to them, so we go back and forth all day talking about them (along with other music from the 60's 70's). My mom likes some of their stuff but not enough where i can really sit there and conversate about them with her. So basically, just the one. We don't even work with each other anymore either, has I just got a promotion and changed jobs. But we still email each other all day long with trivia and just general conversation. If my dad was still alive, I would have another.
Well, I guess I can add one more. My best friends mom really likes them and we all go out drinking at the bar we always sing Beatles song during the kereoke hours And yes, we sound terrible, but we have a damn good time!
