Well, I could always be persuaded!
Try to tempt Gloi in another round. Pretty close last month! |

It's a shame that some of the more knowledgeable people don't play regularly enough. You and I will win this every month because we play every day. There are several others who could do the same and make the competition tighter. I wondered if a few people were not playing so much because it was impossible for them to win? One of the reasons I thought I might stand down. |

It's a fun quiz but you have to get into the habit of playing every day, especially as, apparently, some questions come up a second time.
The points system seems complicated and a bit strange. Is it explained on the site somewhere?
I hope the quiz continues through the winter since I imagine that, like me, that's when people are more often on their computer.
Given time Bobber and Blue Meanie may well be challenged in their supremacy!

Lot's of questions have been asked several times, and some have the wrong answer. So you have to remember the wrong answer! The questions about chord progressions kill me every time! |

Everybody started with a thousand points. Every wrong answer will cost you a hundred points. Plus every second you use is a point down. So, two wrongs answers and 51 seconds will make 749 points. |

I guess you mean this: correct answers - the time you used. Although I can never reach the top list, I almost play every day. I always see that I really don't know enough about them. I've only had twice 10/10 and never won, but never mind. |

OK. That's for the score but I'm more intrigued by the points awarded. For example at the moment Afox took only 4 seconds more than Bobber to get the ten correct answers and he's 2points down on him. But Sewi who took a massive 92 seconds more than me to get the ten is only one point down on me. |

That's the running order. Depending on the number of players, number 1 gets (for instance) 12 points, number 2 10 etcetera. |

Here are yesterday's points. How come Afox doesn't get 26 points? How come the last seven players all get 4 points? And how come (most important of all!) I get 18 and not 22? Player Pts Awarded 1. Bobber + 27 pts 2. afox2010 + 24 pts 3. HarryLime + 22 pts 4. BlueMeanie + 20 pts 5. freakchic9 + 19 pts 6. zipp + 18 pts 7. jstree01 + 16 pts 8. sewi + 15 pts 9. akire74 + 14 pts 10. hummusbreath + 12 pts 11. yavanna + 5 pts 12. rl + 5 pts 13. SgtPepper + 5 pts 14. PaulieBear + 5 pts 15. skydropco + 5 pts 16. Revolver42 + 5 pts 17. krammark3 + 5 pts 18. johno + 5 pts 19. zieb + 5 pts 20. nwilkins + 5 pts 21. digna + 4 pts 22. This_Boy + 4 pts 23. TheBeatlesForever + 4 pts 24. Sheepdog + 4 pts 25. ShesCominDownFastYesSheIs + 4 pts 26. Okay + 4 pts 27. Suddenlyblonde1 + 4 pts |

My theory: #1 and the runners up get a sort of bonus. From there, points are dropping on a regular base. That's also the reason why you got awarded with 18 points and not 22. The top ten players get the most points. As soon as you dropped to #11, your points are going down dramatically and the same thing happens when you're under #20. It's a complex thing, isn't it? Most important thing of all is the fun you should put out of it, a little test for yourself. Don't take it too serious. |

In my opinion the more you understand the rules the more interesting a game is. As you've noticed it's extremely important to be in the top ten.So if you're the last person to play you should look at the scores and work out what tactics to use to get there (speed vs correct answers maybe). I really feel sorry for Yavanna yesterday who got 5 points at number eleven, just one point more than the player who came last at 27! What you said about the difference between 20 and 21 is not at all substantiated from yesterday's scores. As for taking it seriously, I'm reminded of what Sir Alex Ferguson once said about football when asked if it was a matter of life and death. His answer? No, of course not, it's much more serious than that! |

That was Bill Shankly, a very long time ago. |
