Nice to hear from you Mairi! What city are you from? Was you born in Canada? Do you like to live there? As it is an immigration country, how it is to live with people from all over the world? Any problems with it or advantages?
I would rather not say what city I am from, but I am from Atlantic Canada. I was born in Canada, but since my father is British, I have dual citizenship which is really cool. About immigration, well, my father immigrated from Scotland 18 years ago, and everything was just fine (for the most part). Annually there are about 260,000 immigrants, which doesn't sound like a lot, but you have to keep in mind that we only have a population of 33,390,141.
I love my country, of course, but as with every country there are some good things and bad things.
Good things: -Universal health care (thank you Tommy Douglas) -Gay rights -Good economy (for now...) -Ethnic diversity -generally more liberal, which is a good thing IMO -Cleaner environment -GUN CONTROL!!!! -We have a multi-party election system -Two national languages (Thanks to bilingual packaging, I know the French words for "free prize" and "no sugar added"!)
Bad things: -Lack of national pride -Weather can be absolutely awful sometimes -Very rural in some areas -Stephen Harper (our current Prime Minister) -Our army is lousy to say the least -Higher tax rate (because of health care) -Stephen Harper backed out of the Kyoto agreement -Still under the sovereign -Lack of employment opportunity in Atlantic Canada -Our government is too soft on crime IMO -Celine Dion
You're so vain, you probably think this post is about you.
Thanks a lot pc and everybody! Just noticed beatleslover2 and Bungalow Bill is from Canada too, there is already four Canadians here
I'm reading and learning Canada already for a long time. Most of all I'm afraid of high tax rates So I will have to study laws to reduce it
I'm wondering what is wrong with employment in Atlantic Canada? Why? First I'm going to Quebec and then most likely to Toronto. Hope to find some not bad job for first period.
By the way, in coming Saturday I'm starting to study francais
Hey, I'm from Canada too (just found this site too!). I hope you're enjoying your time in Canada soo far!!! Quebec is one of the most beautiful places ever, but if you want to see what I deem to be Canada's pride go out to Alberta and British Columbia, the mountains are the most spectacular thing ever (yeah, I can't think of a word better than thing!)
