I tried searching for a thread about this. Please move or delete if this has already been discussed elsewhere

I guess it's not really THAT important but I've always wondered what happened to Ringo's left eyebrow. Sometimes it's there, sometimes half of it seems to be shaved off.. I thought maybe something happened to it at one point during the Beatles period, but I found this picture from pretty early on:

In some later pictures the eyebrow is fullgrown, or it's been filled out to make it look that way..? And in other pictures it's weird looking again!

Ringo had patches of grey hair early in his life. Perhaps you heard about the grey patch in his hair, near his left temple? Well, he had half a grey eyebrow. He used to color it in with eyebrow pencil to make it look normal. He talks about this in the Beatles Monthly magazines.

He also said his beard would grow in half grey, so whenever he wore one he used to like to dye it to be all one color. Then he'd get sick of dying it and shave it all off.

Excellent question for the Ringo thread, Popaloptop.

Thanks Wow, I didn't know that.. Thank you for clearing that up. I did a search on the internet and didn't find anything on it! You guys really know everything in this forum! I did know that he had that grey patch but I didn't make a connection from that to the brow!

I think you can see the grey patch of hair on the cover of the Please Please album. Or maybe it's just the lighting.

Absolutely, Freakchic9! Beatles' eyebrows are the subject of intense interest.

For example, there is a whole group of people devoted to discussing when George's unibrow went away. And Tony Sheridan didn't let Paul touch him for months because he thought he was gay-- because "no one has eyebrows like that" (he thought Paul plucked them!).

There is no source of trivia too small.

Yea I wondered too when George's unibrow went away.... Something to look into

I had noticed it on the cover of Please Please Me (Ringo's grey patch in his hair).  They I noticed something was up with his eyebrow but I just thought it was the lighting.  Then I kept noticing it.  I think they mention it in the Anthology DVD's too.

When I was in 6th grade, I was playing with scissors and cut off half of my eye brow, so I had to find an eyebrow pencil and draw it in until it grew back. When my "friends" at school found out, they laughed. A lot. It was horrible.

I always see alot of girls who shave off their eyebrows and then draw them in.  And I always wonder what they might look like when they wake up in the morning, what their boyfriends (or girlfriends...whatever floats your boat!) roll over and look at someone with no eyebrows

Sorry if I offended anyone here who does that.

Cholos do that to look tough. It's part of the gang mentality thing. Other than that, I never see it.

I'm pretty sure the main thing is expression. Humans (like other primates) are alone in having two forward facing eyes, and are much more reliant on facial expressions to express moods than other animals. Eyebrows have evolved due to natural selection. ( ancestors that could best express themselves were more likely to survive.)
Pretty much the same for the hair on our heads - especially women. It sends out signals that the woman is healthy, fertile (and if worn the right way:available.) This is why women spend so much time and money on it, and why it is covered or chopped when women (or the men that control them) want to supress their sexuality.

An interesting thread!
And since we're talking physical attributes, has anyone noticed how much George's teeth improved in the sixties?

Chula's. Cholo would be a guy   But yes your right (I live in Ca so I see it alot).  Then again, I have seen alot of women in their 50's - 60's that do it too.  Maybe it was the thing when they were younger?  I know people who have their eyebrows and eyeliner tattooed. OUCH!

And I also was under the impression the eyebrows were to keep sweat out of the eyes, like eyelashes keep debris out.

And yes George must have gotten his teeth fixed somewhere along the line.

i cant find the pic online, but his eyebrow issue is quite obvious in the picture on page 6 in the little booklet thing inside the "past masters, volume one" CD. i know, its quite random, but i found it the other day and instantly though of this thread. ( and look at Georges hairline! its uh.... very interesting, and kind of........... jagged...EEK!)

if you dont have the CD, then mabe one of you people who can actually use their computers correctly can find it!
