Carole King is a really talented songwriter but doesn't receive a lot of praise for it. I don't know why- maybe because the best songs she wrote weren't originally performed by her? Anyway, I think she is one of the best songwriters of the sixties and I would put her up there with her male contemporaries, Paul Simon and such.
Opinions?
You're so vain, you probably think this post is about you.
I'm with you Mairi - Carole King ... one of the best there ever was!
And don't take my word for it, y'all ... our dear young lads, when still in their teens, aspired to be the next Goffin-King, according to many interviews.
"Locomotion" (Little Eva, of Little Eva and the Imperials, was Carole King's babysitter!), and a whole lot more.
I believe she worked out of the Brill Factory building in Brooklyn ... I think Paul Anka, and later Neil Diamond churned out hits from the same building. Did Leiber and Stoller as well?
But back to the issue - our lads from Liverpool thought the world of Carole King ... she's tops!
I love John, I love Paul, And George and Ringo, I love them all!
