McCartney and Starr to Reunite? 05/05/2008 - 1:40:17 PM
Beatles fans have been sent into a frenzy over rumours Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr are set to reunite on stage in an historic performance.
To celebrate the city being named 2008's Capital of Culture, the Fab Four's hometown of Liverpool, England is hosting the Sound City music festival, where McCartney is set to take to the stage.
And after Liverpool City Council granted McCartney's production company $3.4m (ˆ2.1m) to stage the event, fans are now speculating the singer is secretly planning a special gig - with his former bandmate Starr.
A source tells British newspaper the Daily Star: "There's been a lot of chat in Beatles fan chatrooms on the internet and the feeling is that it could happen."
The four-day festival takes place from May 27-30 at the Hard Days Night Hotel and various other city venues.
I feel that both of you are correct. Furthermore, I feel that Ringo will play "Matchbox" as his special number, and that Paul will bring Heather along to sing backup because it would be, like, so appropriate.
Really, folks. I have a very strong feeling about this! *tries to sound like Luke and Leia in the original Star Wars series*
All you've got to do is choose love. That's how I live it now. I learned a long time ago, I can feed the birds in my garden. I can't feed them all. -- Ringo Starr, Rolling Stone magazine, May 2007
For all I know, Ringo might be a yogi disguised as a drummer! - George Harrison

In all fairness, I have to concede that the mistake/deception is the probably the headline writer's, not the journalist's: it would have been fine if he or she had written "Fans Speculate About A McCartney/Starr Reunion" or something like that, because that is what the story is about. The headline, though, implies more, probably deliberately, and most of the people who bother to read the story are going to feel deceived. It's not just the internet that's killing newspaper circulation.
This same sort of thing is always happening regarding a Kinks reunion. Ray and Dave are miles apart from it, but the media often cites the 'impending' event as if it's been officially announced. All based on oblique references made by one or another of the band mates, usually Ray, but with no real substance there. Too funny.

I don't know about Dave, but Ray seems to start the rumours himself. When I saw him a couple of years ago in Copenhagen he made two references to a possible Kinks reunion.
I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.

He's doing it all the time. Dave'll have nothing of it.
