I'm sure this has happened to most of us. A Beatles song comes on the radio, Beatles are mentioned on TV, etc and you make a comment on the Beatles and a non-Beatle fan/person gives you that "glazed look" in their eyes or just roll their eye like "oh gezz, here we go again." How do you deal with that?
I treat people's attitudes about The Beatles as a sort of litmus test of their artistic sensibilities, as well as other things. A useful tool, really. Not surprisingly, I don't mingle in to well with the 'anti' or apathetic types. To each their own.
'...In the name of Preverti, daughter of the mountains, whose embrace with Rani made the whole world tremble...'

well, i dont really run into this problem that much, but i do get real mad at the person. i pretty much think in my head, oh dear god, what is wrong with this person? but a few days ago, my sister said something about Ringo Starr to some of her friends. they said "Whos he?" after she said he was one of the beatles, they said "oh... i thought all of them were dead!" i pretty said that was sad, but kind of funny. i mean, they were only 12 years old. what do you expect?
Love the Beatles, and all shall be right.avatar created by freakchic
"Love is the answer, and you know that for sure; Love is a flower, you've got to let it grow." -John Lennon
" I don't work at being ordinary." -Paul McCartney
"The Beatles saved the world from boredom." -George Harrison
"So this is America. They must be out of their minds." -Ringo Starr
The worst thing about non-Beatle people is when you say things like: cha cha boom or the toppermost of the poppermost and they look at you like you're crazy. I need someone who gets it! But most people don't so I'm resigned to the fact that I live in a mostly non-Beatle world. I'm not opposed to a mixed relationship though. As long as he's willing to convert. And if not, he would have to at least agree to raise the kids as Beatlemaniacs. Otherwise it's just no good!
I delete her phone number and we don't do lunch any more, basically.
It took me almost 24 hours of laughing to reply. Thanks for helping me believe in people again (At least Beatle fans!!!) Generally, once I see "that look", I just think to myself, "alright, just 'shut-up' and let them lose themselves into "American Idol" / "Britian has Talent" (or what ever the current "thing" is - thank God I work nights and miss this "stuff". Sorry to "fans" of those shows - I didn't mean to step on toes - just not my "cup of tea".)
Maybe there all in the closet , i suspect there are a lot of closet Beatles fans ?
I bet there are. Funny, if you say you like The Stones, you're OK. A sadder caricature I couldn't think of. There are apparently tribute bands doing the rounds that are better than them!
I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.

It's just the conventional thing to do, I think. A lady friend of mine who is probably the least rock-and-roll sort of person I've ever met saw them a year or so ago with a couple of her friends and told me she thought it all was great. But she'll say the same thing after seeing a revival of a Lloyd Webber musical, too.

Since you mentioned American Idol...
American Idol: Top 3 (Yawn) by Ken Levine
The fun weeks of American Idol are over. All the interesting stoners, tattoo ladies, hayseeds, emotional wrecks, biker chicks, foreigners, cretins, cheerleaders, divas, endomorphs, satyrs, and future serial killers have been voted off. Now it's down to three and you know who's going to win so it's kind of like dragging a dead horse across the finish line to shoot it.

In this case - I've been "out of the closet" for years!!
"Hi, my name is Doug and I'm a Beatle-fanatic - and I DON'T need help - unless it's the Beatles movie." (Lord, this could go on forever, hope it does, seeeeeee!!!!)
If there was something about "hating" the Stones - I didn't see it - maybe I skipped over it?? I like them myself, but than again, we are in a Beatles Forum. Thanks for The Stones still touring that I can say I've seen them between 5 & 10 times - I have to laugh when I try to remember whom the "warm-up" band that came out before the Stones was and think - "Is that group still around like the Stones?"
