I remember that once I've downloaded (ilegally, sorry) the original CD version of ATMP and it sounded awful. When I bought (yes) the 2001 remaster I was pleased. So, I would say the 2001 edition. Sorry Phil Spector.

I just played my old copy of the 1987 CD a few days ago out of curiosity, and it does sound bad. The Toshiba edition or the 2001 remaster are the way to go.
