I'm getting this album tomorrow BlueMeanie , the reviews are really good . And i really like double albums and this one sounds from what i've read to be one of the best .
You will not be disappointed Dave. It is extremely varied, but in his 50th year, the man really has done the business.
WOW!!!! this is a bloody great album Paul , have only played it through once and already i can say Mr Weller's come up with a truely exceptional album . Not heard anything like this since the great singer songwriter days of the 70's . At long last a male solo artist does the business . It's gone strate in at # 1 on the UK album chart , think this album will be talked about for years to come
i got the album last week. my first impression is a very interesting 60's sounding album! it is probley his White Album in a way and a bit Pepper-esque with the songs going into another. i was a bit worried because i loved his last album to death! and i thought it was slightly overlooked. it is hard trying to better something like Stanly Road or Wild Wood, but i do still think he's writing very strong material! i do think it does need to grow on me slightly though. and it is a long album, and i'm never a great fan of long albums or double albums. all in all, good work Weller!
...but has he made up his mind?
It's been a Hard Days Night & i've been working like a dog!
I really like this album his voice is lovely and craggy " Light Nights " reminds me of Cat Stevens i can also hear the influence of Nick Drake and Bowie in some songs ? " All I Wanna Do' (Is Be With You ) as an intro and instrumental break that sounds just like Bowie's " Sound And Vision " I think " Cold Moments " is very Style Council i can see that been coverd , it's a great pop song . I love "Push It Along " sounds great turned up loud
agreed! i think Weller's always had a sense of soul music in his work
It's the mod thing; you can hear the soul influence in his work all the way back to In The City, The Jam's first album. It's the common denominator in all his work, really.
