The Goodbye Girl
JAWS
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Annie Hall

People -- you cannot list a movie AND ITS SEQUEL(S) as one movie!

Joost, you have to choose between a Back to the Future movie as being your favorite; that also goes with Pirates and Schrek; DaveRam, the Lord of the Rings trilogy -- pick one; and anyone who lists Godfather 1 and 2 as ONE MOVIE --THEY WERE 2 MOVIES!

Having aired that grievance, here's my top 10:

The Godfather
Godfather 2
A Clockwork Orange
2001: A Space Odyssey
This is Spinal Tap
Goodfellas
Pulp Fiction
The Departed
Star Wars (and anyone who ever calls it 'Episode 4' is a total douchebag.)
The Dark Knight  (yeah, I'm caught up in it;  maybe a year from now I'll think it wasn't that good.  But for now I think it's a masterpiece.)

1. The Back to the Future and Pirates of the Caribbean (and Shrek to a lesser extend) trilogies were one story spread over three movies. There were even cliffhangers between parts 1 & 2 and between 2 & 3. So you can't really see them as seperate movies that stand on their own.

2. If I had to make a top 10 and list all those movies seperately, I'd probably include all three BttF movies, both the first two PotC movies and maybe both the first two Shrek movies. So I'd have room for just three more movies then... That would make a pretty dull list...

3. Being the topic starter, I can make the rules and I say it's OK.

You've gotta try and break the rules sometimes Mr . Mustard

But if i'm pushed to decide on it , it would be .

1/ The Fellowship Of The Ring
2/ Alien
3/ Kill Bill 1
4/Godfather 1

You have The Departed on your list i saw that movie for the first time a few weeks back and thought it was brilliant .
And your so right about Star Wars
