Which era do you think had the biggest influence on music ?
Was it those glitter Kings Bolan and Bowie or those young punks the Sex Pistols and The Clash ?

I would go with punk. I don't see a lot of glam bands around these days. There are tons of punk bands though.

"Wings IV introduced Jimmy McCulloch, a spunky lead guitarist with grit, able to spur Paul on unlike any previous soloist. His debut track, the magnificent single `Junior's Farm', stands as one of Wings' finest emotional and technical releases."

"Few people on this planet know as much about Jimmy's musical history than you."

"I'm Joe English and I'm from Glasgow, Scotland." xD

I think Glam Rock had the bigger influence in the long run , all those 80's bands that were part of the second invasion of the American charts oh more to Bolan and Bowie than the Pistols and The Clash in my opinion .
Altough i do think punk was important .

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars i think influenced more bands and artists than Never Mind the Bollocks .
I hear Ziggy's  influence in The Killers , Red Hot Chili Peppers  and Radiohead and Madonna as built her career nicking Bowie's panache for reinvention .

it depends on where youre talking about i think the music coming out of america at the moment you can hear a lot more glam influence, but  the british indie bands have a punkier raw sound,

The libertines, the view....... all have that slight raw  sound.

Absolutely agree. The British scene is more influenced by punk bands. Moreover, there are not only punk bands but also pop-punk bands, punk-rock bands and so on...

yeah t not as messy/neat sounding,  the guitars are very jangly and when they strum/pick it inst as precise as when you listen to american rock bands like foo fighters, red hot chili peppers but there are obv exceptions for both strokes(usa) muse( uk)

Maybe glam had the bigger influence visually and punk musically? Dunno, really: I think that most musicians just cherry pick what they like from wherever, and that generic labels are more a critic's fancy than a useful description of what most bands (apart from trend-following hacks) actually try to do.

I think Glam has had a much longer term influence than Punk. Punk thought it was going to blow the cobwebs away and destroy all the Dinosaurs. But when Punk was finished the likes of Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd were still there, and the next big thing was the New Romantics who were more influenced by Glam than Punk.

I can hear some Punk influences today but they are few and far between. Really, I don't think Punk was around for long enough (in the UK, anyway) to be a massive influence. And you can count the number of really successful punk bands on the fingers of one hand.

I am, of course, speaking from a UK perspective. In the States there seemed to be a time when Glam and Punk merged into one another.

I just want you to reassure him - talk to him, make him see the error of his ways. Then I'll hit him.
