So, what one d'you listen to the most? We've gone through which albums and songs, etc., etc., etc. . . . so! The white album -- part one or part two? Take your pick.

Part 2,, cause it has Sexy sadie

Part 2. I was never a fan of Long Long Long, but all the toher songs are exceptional. even if part 1 has dear prduence, back in the ussr and happiness is a warm gun.
i'm interested to see what everyone else picks.

I listen to both sides equally because the White Album is the Beatles true masterpiece & you can't deny it.
Posted by: Mairi, April 1, 2005, 4:21pm; Reply: 9
Equally. Disc One has Back in the USSR and Happiness is A Warm Gun, but Disc Two has Revolution and Honey Pie.

Disc 2 has Sexy sadie, Yer Blues, Mother natures son, Cry baby Cry, Helter Skelter and Savoy Truffle
Disc 1- Rocky Racoon, While my GGW, HIAWGun, Dear Prudence, Martha My Dear, and Blackbird
I like Revolution 9, but not the idea of it being on an album..cause it makes it not fully listenable and Dont pass me by gets annoying

1 & 2 just abot equally, too many good songs on both discs to favor one over the other.
Posted by: Lostio, April 2, 2005, 3:32am; Reply: 13
Disc 1.
Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Rocky Raccoon
Dear Prudence
Back In the USSR
Happiness Is A Warm Gun
Disc 2 also has spectacular songs, but I usually prefer listening to the ones in Disc 1. Although all songs are masterpieces. Yes, including Wild Honey Pie, Revolution 9 and Long Long Long which is a very underrated Geroge song.

I listen to both when I listen to it, but I like Disc 1 better, even though Yer Blues and Helter Skelter are probably my favorites on the album (along with Happiness Is a Warm Gun).
Posted by: slimjim, April 5, 2005, 3:52pm; Reply: 17
The second disc I think, for Savoy Truffle and Cry Baby Cry
Posted by: Kevin, April 5, 2005, 3:56pm; Reply: 18
I hardly ever listen to side 4, except to catch Revolution. Sides 1 and 3 are my favourites
Posted by: fabmark, April 5, 2005, 8:47pm; Reply: 19
listen to both equally, good stuff on both discs
Posted by: GL, April 6, 2005, 9:50pm; Reply: 20
I always listen to the whole album from start to finish, with the exception of Revolution 9, which I almost always skip.
Posted by: Frightwolf, April 7, 2005, 2:23am; Reply: 21
Disc 1 -- Back in the USSR, Dear Prudence, OblaDi, WMGGW, I Will, Rocky Raccoon, Martha My Dear, Blackbird, and yes, even Why Don't We Do It?
It's just more fun to listen to. Although I really like Helter Skelter.
Posted by: sexy sadie, April 20, 2005, 1:20am; Reply: 22
although disc 2 definitely has some great songs (birthday, mother nature's son, everybody's got something to hide (except for me and my monkey), sexy sadie, and cry baby cry), disc 1 is better overall. that's usually the one i put on when i listen to the white album. :D
Posted by: Tontini, April 20, 2005, 11:34pm; Reply: 23
Disc 1 because I say "I'll listen to both" but halfway through it I need to somehting else so sheesh. I've never listened to it completely, always with skips.

disc 2 because of birthday, yer blues, cry baby cry and mother natures son

Disc 2. There's lots of boring filler on Disc 1, Disc 2 is perfect...almost.
Posted by: Indica, September 9, 2005, 11:13pm; Reply: 26
I have to say Disc 2.
It has that unsettling and diverse feel..which makes the White Album so odd.
Posted by: ma_tt2, October 6, 2005, 5:41am; Reply: 27
Disc 2 right now, I've over played 1 but I'll eventually go back to 1

Thats exactly what I do: I play one then the other (is there any other way for old fashioned people like me with the album in two tapes) :P
I listen to it as ONE doble album, why choose one side or other if there are great music on both? The guys wanted in that way, so... what can we do against it? ::)

I've got the White Album both on vinyl and CD -- but I stupidly lent out disk 2 so needless to say I'll probably never see that again.
I prefer disk 1, or if you prefer, sides 1 and 2. Happiness is a Warm Gun, I'm So Tired (2 of my favorite John songs), Why Don't We Do it in the Road, I Will, Guitar Gently Weeps, Dear Prudence, Glass Onion, Piggies, Rocky Raccoon, Bungalow Bill, Blackbird. I actually like Back in the USSR more for the tongue-in-cheek lyrics and the Beach Boys parody than the actual song itself. And I like Ringo's first offering, Don't Pass Me By.
On disk 2 I like Sexy Sadie and Cry Baby Cry (two more of my John faves), Helter Skelter, Long Long Long (underrated), the other stuff is good, not great, but side 4 dies with Revolution 9 and Good Night.
I'll listen to either side/disk, but disk 1 wins out.

yeah, specially Revolution #9 and i'm not fond of songs like Piggies, Rocky Raccoon
and the ditty Wild Honey Pie.
best songs for me are blackbird, dear prudence, sexy sadie, guitar gently weeps,
mother nature's son and i do freely admit i love Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da! :P ;)

Blackbird
Mother natures son

Just one moment from the White Album:
You cannot listen to the beginning notes of Dear Prudence (as Back in the USSR is still fading out) without thinking "Wow, these guys are so good." Even if it's different from everything else they've recorded.
Posted by: Sandra, July 19, 2008, 8:37am; Reply: 41
Disc one by far. Happiness is a Warm Gun is one of my most played songs on my iPod. The only songs I listen to on disc two are Sexy Sadie and Cry Baby Cry. Sometimes Mother Nature's Son.

I have listened to disc one soooo many times that its worn out and scratched! The White Album is my favorite and my favorite song is on Disc one! I'm so Tired! I'm glad to see that others here have a great appreciation for that song too....it seems to be far under-rated in my opinion.
Posted by: aspinall_lover, July 19, 2008, 7:48pm; Reply: 45
The White Album is probably my favorite of Beatles' albums just "because" it's sooooo different than anything else they did.........."experimental" would be a good word.....

I like disc one more, but i am crazy about Savoy Truffle!

Exactly the same. On the first disk I love Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Martha My Dear and Don't Pass Me By. On disk two I love Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey and Savoy Truffle(one of my favorite George songs).
Posted by: Jane, July 31, 2008, 6:41pm; Reply: 50
Is Savoy Truffle "dedicated" to Eric Clapton?
Posted by: Okay, July 31, 2008, 11:02pm; Reply: 51
I actually prefer disc two, more personnal imo.
Posted by: Hello Goodbye, August 1, 2008, 3:06am; Reply: 52
I listen to both disks when I want to hear the White Album. I skip Revolution 9 as I've already listened to it frontwards, backwards and at all different speeds. ;)

^ did you manage to get the hidden message? ;)
I went for both discs equally :)
From Disc 1 I like
>Happiness is a Warm Gun (had a bit of an obsession with that song a few weeks ago... kept listening to it all the time and it was stuck in my head for ages (lol) )
>Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da
>I'm So Tired
>While My Guitar Gently Weeps
>Don't Pass Me By
And then in Disc 2 I like
>Birthday (I love how this song is so full of energy 8) )
>Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey
>Helter Skelter
>Savoy Truffle (love this one!! :) )
>Good Night

I'm afraid that I'm one of those people that are of the opinion that it would have made a very good single album. I have rarely listened to it all the way through for the last 25 years. I pick out the good stuff and leave the filler. I'm not one of these people that thinks it brilliant just because it's The Beatles. I mean, if anyone else had made 'Why Don't We Do It in the Road' would you listen to it?
Posted by: Jane, August 1, 2008, 5:32pm; Reply: 55
WhyDWDIITRoad was our favourite song at school. So we did listen to it! Not only because of the Beatles.
Posted by: Okay, August 1, 2008, 7:51pm; Reply: 56
For sheer quality I'd agree with you BlueMeanie, but (as cliché as it may seem) I really like the mess on the whole album. I mean, Wild Honey Pie ain't a good track, but I feel the album's better with it.

Funnily enough I was reading a contempory review of it in The Times by Aoellian Cadences Mann. He liked it but his big criticism was that it was too retro and he hoped that with their next album they would catch up with bands like Pink Floyd and return to "pushing the boundaries" blah blah.
For once I have to agree with him. If you discount Rev 9 there's not that much on the albums that sounds anything like "experimental" (?) If anything it sounds like the comedy album they threatened to make in 66. Great great songs, but it doesn't take itself too seriously.

They tried to make a comedy album?
Posted by: Mr. Mustard, August 28, 2008, 7:00am; Reply: 59
Who the hell cares how 'experimental' the White Album was? It was a ton of great songs! That's what the Beatles did, they created great music! It's only because of how great the music was that everyone started talking about how 'experimental' they were.
They were the best at creating great songs. After Revolver and Sgt. Peppers, if they'd set out to be more 'innovative,' they'd probably have fallen on their faces. So they made the White Album.
And you're complaining?
See Paul's statement in the Anthology regarding the White Album.

In an interview in 66 ( I think ) comedy was one of the direcections Paul ( I think ) said the band could pursue.

Sorry - but who's complaining ( other than Mr Mann in 1968 ) ?

I prefer disc 1. I like mostly all the songs on disc 2 but of them, only Yer Blues, Sexy Sadie and in particular Helter Skelter really do it for me.
