Does anyone here like them? I just got A Night At The Opera and love every single song on it, it's simply amazing. What are some other good Queen albums? Do they have any more as good as A Night At The Opera?

I think they're good. Most of the 70's stuff I like, a bit of the 80's. The 90's? Forget it.

Maybe you knew this already, but the first several albums were all named after Marx Brothers movies.

How would you guys rank Queens albums? I've heard a bit of the pre-Night at the Opera era and the only song I really like is Killer Queen. Would A day At The Races be a good on to get. I heard they pretty much did the exact same thing as A Night At The Opera on this one.

I don't think they should have gone on tour with Paul Rodgers. I don't like the idea of some fronting a band with the rest of Queen and this guy singing Freddie's songs.

I like Queen very much! Their best album for me it's 'Queen II'. Hard rock, cool guitar hooks, great vocals and melodies. Try it, maybe you'll like it as I do. It is in my 10 ten fav albums of all times. Another good albums from 70s are 'Sheer Heart Attack', 'Jazz'. Also 'The Game', 'The Works'.

See Queen at my site http://discographies.murashev.com/artist.php?artist=25 for discography and album reviews.

I saw Paul Rogers fronting Queen on VH1 the other night and I though he was more than adequate, but then again I like Bad co. He does'nt give the Broadway show tune theatrics that Mercury brought to the band, but still a good performance though. The question that still boggles the mind, is how did one gay guy convince three strait guys to name a band Queen?....... :D

I'm a huge Queen fan, got all albums on CD, most of them on LP, some vinyl singles, all official DVD's and over 300 bootlegs.

I would recommend Queen II and A Day At The Races after A Night At The Opera.

One of the best bands ever. Four great song writers in one four-piece band and that's unusual.

Good luck with finding the time to listen to those 300 plus Queen bootlegs!

Queen has 300 bootlegs?????????????????????????????????????????????????? Wow, didn't know that... I'll have to start searching the net....

Well, I like them. On every album there are songs that I like very much and those that I skip. Best song: probably The Miracle, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy (that's me!), Life Is Real (Song for Lennon), I'm Going Slightly Mad, Seven Seas of Rhye, I Was Born To Love You, Seaside Rendezvous...

Not to mention that Bohemian Rhapsody is a masterpiece and out of any categories...

Night at the Opera
Day at The Races
Sheer Heart Attack (damn it my FAVE!! Killer Queen on here)
(have the rest, but don't like them as much--I hated WE WILL ROCK YOU, which really put me at odds w/ a lot of ppl)

to each their own.

fave queen songs : Bohemian Rhapsody (no sh*t), Death On Two Legs (forgotten GEM), Killer Queen, Love of My Life, Keep Yourself Alive.

Queen are good, but I find their sound to be superficial. Great singer and talented songwriters? Yes.  Yet I feel that the sum is less than its parts.

yeah i agree with comment above they were great but there music never had a warmth or anything really to relate to, they have never had that   thing that makes you wanna get books about them or watch documentary's about them, they made great music but thats were it stopped for me i never felt the need to get to know more about them, like i did with the beatles, the kinks, the smiths ........

My views on Queen are well known round these parts. But I'm a big fan of Free, and to a lesser extent Bad Company. I've never heard Paul Rogers sing with Queen - the imagination runs riot at the thought of him singing Bicycle Race, or Body Language - but I can't think that it does his reputation much good. This man has one of the great British blues voices of the last 40 years, has performed with the likes of Paul Kossoff, Mick Ralphs, and Jimmy Page, and ends up on stage with the less than admirable overblown theatrical style of Brian May! Not exactly the pinnacle of one's career.

You have to admit it - Queen is fantastic! All their records are brilliant but without Freddie they are not the same. He was genius, very talented. Still if you can you should go to their concert cause they are the second after The Beatles to be remembered forever, for eternity. The Beatles ( 60s ) - The Queen ( 70s ), and i ve no idea who comes next? 80s is empty, no great group... 90s- Oasis for me, but i am not absolutely sure. Can you HELP me? Help, i need smb`s help!

Would that be oasis's or Queens ? ive tried getting into Queens albums but i find they get very irritating after to much listening, in the same way listening to a Darkness album would, but i dont mind hearing the odd single on the radio every now and again.

Oasis great debut, okay follow up and have hade a load of number 1 albums since then because of promises of a definitely maybe 2 and they're antics in the papers.

i think theyre have been much better bands in the 90's in britian - Radiohead, Blur, Supergrass, The Doves.... to name a few.

Would oasis had been as huge if they weren't constantly in the papers and promoting the whole working class band thing ? which should have F all to do with music, im working class and im nothing like them and glad of it.

Rant over

Sorry, BlueMeanie! Do you mean Queen or Oasis? Queen is wonderful from beginning to end, hard and soft, very diverse. I rate them second after The Beatles in terms of eternity. Oasis is a matter of taste, i admit they dont appeal to everybody. But remember when they appeared British critics compared Liam G. and his voice to John Lennon`s. Compared to not with. I can see the similarity. And you? So whose 3 albums?

What do you think about Queen + Paul Rogers???
In their 2008 tour they'll gave the first 2 concerts in September in Moscow http://www.queenonline.com/qpr/tour-dates/
I'm wondering about whether it worth to attend because there are only two of original Queen: Brian May and Roger Taylor :(
Their last single "Say It's Not True" is awful :(

I love Queen with Freddy!
Posted by: Jane, June 23, 2008, 8:30pm; Reply: 50
Still it`s Queen!!! J. Deacon ( do i spell the name correctly?) refuses to play with them now that Freddie is gone. I respect his decision. But i adore Queen - my second band after the Beatles - and i am going to attend the concert!!! I was surely one of the first to buy the tickets. Besides they will sing the old hits and Rogers sings very well. I know Queen fans who can`t wait till the concert starts, so to speak. When i was in London this winter i went to the musical We Will Rock You. It was very good, i enjoyed it. So how can i miss the true genuine Queens??? How is it possible that i will like them less than the actors? If you, guys, don`t go i will write to you about my impressions. So, Dmitry, i think you shouldn`t hesitate, certainly if you like their music.

Freddie had a great voice and bags of charisma and some Queen songs i really like , but i don't think there was much development in their music .
And when they tried something different like on the "Hot Space" album it did'nt work . I think some bands have great difficulty developing their sound , Queen are a classic example of this in my opinion .

I think their first three albums are very much in the rock vein. I used to listen to them on the John Peel Show in the early 70's, before their first album came out, and they played some pretty heavy duty stuff. After that I'd say that they were fairly unclassifiable, verging on pop. Freddie could hardly say that the likes of 'Killer Queen', 'Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy', 'Fat Bottomed Girls', 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love', 'Another One Bites the Dust', and 'Under Pressure' were not firmly in the pop mould.

Thanks JMfan a lot! Since I am a Queen fan as well, I will certainly buy the record. And an interesting thing I learned from your source  is that all of them write songs. As far as I know Roger Taylor didn`t write any songs (or few?) when with the Queen. It`s a pity John Deacon left them cause his songs were fantastic: Another One Bites The Dust, You`re My Best Friend, Spread Your Wings (I adore it!) etc. I`ve read in this forum that Paul Rodgers has a very good vocal. Is it true, cause I`ve never heard him sing? Is he real good? I am getting excited! What if the Queen is restoring to life?

Useless music trivia post # 714:  Brian May has a Ph.D. in astrophysics!

I think I read he interrupted his studies in the 70's to see if this band he was invited to be in might make a go of it. Only recently did he finish up, publish his thesis, and get his diploma.

Congrats Dr. May   :) :)

Hi Jane - Well, I grew up playing piano, and now I play a synthesizer so that I can get sounds of different instruments as well. I am in a very part time band that plays mainly 60s/70/s80s rock - we play a few Beatles songs too! I also play harmonica a bit, I of course started playing that because John played it ...  :)

Not true:

The death of Queen's lead singer Freddie Mercury affected Deacon deeply, and after playing live with Queen twice more (at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness on 20th April 1992 and in Paris on 17th January 1997 (performing only "The Show Must Go On" with Elton John on lead vocals), he made the decision to retire from music, re-appearing only briefly by joining his ex-band mates in October 1997 for the recording of the final Queen song "No-One But You", included in the "Queen Rocks" album released a month later. He chose not to be present at Queen's induction into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 2001, or join in the collaboration with Paul Rodgers.

I know and when he chose NOT to be present in 2001, that ended his career with Queen.

No, his career with Queen ended much earlier.

He retired officially in 1998. That's what I've read.

I`ve been to Queen concert and it was great! The stadium was full and the people sang Queen songs all the way, were very enthusiastic and responsive. I think Brian and Roger were pleasantly surprised by the fact that everybody knew Queen songs lyrics even those of not so popular songs like "39". Brian looks well, slender with long hair, seems not to have changed much. Roger sang his wonderful song I`m In Love With My Car. The stadium exploded. Paul Rodgers sang very well, the only problem is that he`s not that well known. So when he sang songs from his career, actually three, he got less applause than for Queen masterpieces, and he said: Thank you so much! kind of ironically. But the songs from Cosmos Rocks are very good (C-lebrity) and though not promoted much yet they were received by the audience very enthusiastically.
I would recommend those who like Queen to attend the concert by all means and first of all enjoy the old Queen songs, and certainly to buy the new album Cosmos Rocks. It`s less Queen, it`s modern and more rock.

He's well known enough from his time as lead singer of Free, and Bad Company. And also his work with Jimmy Page. People go to Queen concerts to hear Queen songs though. So of course he's not going to get so much applause.

Yes, that`s true. But i think it is only the beginning. If they continue together and succeed they may become popular as a new band and people, not only Paul`s fans, will come to love Paul and will go to listen to him. Now his experience in Bad Company is felt in the new album. And the question is: Is it a Queen album by influence or a Paul R`s album? Whose influence is greater?

Another question is if they have the right to call themselves Queen+Paul Rodgers. The problem lies in the word Queen in the name. There are only two guys from Queen, though, in fact, four used to make the band called Queen. Maybe they should call the group May, Taylor and Rodgers?

This question is connected with the thread about Led Zeppelin if they sang without Robert. Could the band call themselves Led Zeppelin? Can Queen+P.R. call themselves Queen?

Cosmos Rocks is very good ROCK, i `m enjoying it now. The song C-lebrity has a lot of old Queen charm in it. And i think that live it was even better.

The album is out now but you will have it in the USA, as far as I know, in a month. It really is good rock, some that you want to listen to again and again, with heavy songs, just rocky and nice melodies as well. Just as I like it, diverse.

^ Actually I just downloaded the album  :P I'm listening to it now.

I am happy for you but downloading is not the best way to go. Besides you could have done it long ago and now it`s a bit late to boast when everybody has already listened to it.   :P

Cosmos Rocks booklet says that all tracks are written by Queen+PR, no specification who wrote which song. Special thanks are to John Deacon and then come other people. It is written that the album is dedicated to Freddie Mercury.

Now Queen+Paul Rodgers are rocking Great Britain. People say that the concerts, for example in Glasgow, are great and the audience is very responsive and enthusiastic. I wonder if any of you British have been to the concerts? I know that Queen is most loved in Britain. The USA is rather indifferent to it.

The greatest attendance at the concert during the tour was in Argentina and the audience was very enthusiastic. As far as I know Queen is loved in Latin America mostly for their glamorous style, brightness and festive spirit. The tour is still on. What stamina the guys have!

It`s exactly 17 years since Freddie Mercury died. I miss you, Freddie, and will always remember you! (heart2)
