DM's Beatles forums / News / UK Virgin Radio bans The Beatles
Posted by: Kevin, February 27, 2008, 1:59pm
For the last few days Virgin Radio have been having a (mostly very good humoured) phone-in poll on whether the station should continue to play The Beatles. The case against them is that they are out of date and irrelevant. Yesterday they announced that the Beatle ban would come into effect immediately.
Straight away civilisation began to collapse. This morning it was announced that already one interview guest had refused to appear because of the ban. One late- night DJ said he would defy the ban and play Beatle songs tonight. England was rocked by it's strongest earthquake in twenty years this morning and the station interpreted this as God's vote.
Bless them. Virgin radio get a nice little gimmick and The Beatles don't come out too bad from it either. Endless publicity and stay tuned to catch that renegade DJ! Who would have thought that the Four Horsemen of The Apocolypse would have moptops.

A friend rang me, quite breathless about this rogue DJ. I had to explain that in all likelihood they sat around a big table, the PR man saying "right - Chris you ban it. Charlie - you play it." I'm suprised we haven't had the normal "guess what I found" post from some ever helpful Beatle fan.
