Whoever gets the most right answers and in the fastest time, wins! You can play every day of the week, but only once a day. There's a weekly competition as well.

Give it a try! You have to subscribe, but it's free. You can find DM's Daily Quiz here: DM'S DAILY QUIZ!

Good idea. And now the official DM's quiz, as mine has now been cancelled due to a stunning lack of interest!

i thought we had till sunday to fill in our forms

Technically, you do, but there's really not enough people taking part to warrant putting it together. If by some small miracle 8 or 9 more people send in answers by Sunday, then I'll consider doing another round, but otherwise I'm not very inspired.

It seems that the questions are too difficult for some people. I thought the questions would inspire some of our younger members to do some research, and learn something about The Beatles, but it hasn't worked out that way. And once again, there are many regular members who don't take part in these things. I'll certainly think twice before doing something like that again.

Alright. I'll be sending in some answers before Sunday. They were pretty hard I must admit. The Daily Quiz is an automatic generated quiz which runs by itself...

It's fun, and probably a better idea than mine. My phone rang in the middle of it though!

My brain gets so taxed by everything that by the time I check alls looking good round here...i gotta go again. Will try and make more effort but I have never been good at the regular participation involved and don't like the thought of people being let down or dissappointed. Hence I don't normally participate.

Man, this is tough. If your phone rings, it's all over, because timing is so critical.

I was trying to click with a bagel stuffed in my face and nearly lost the works answering the "Ob La Di Ob La Da" question. Had no clue about Ed Sullivan, either. But where was The Simpsons question? Are we all getting the same quiz or did I just blow right past it without even noticing?

Posted by: Bobber, April 18, 2008, 2:08pm; Reply: 11
We will all get the same questions within a week or so I believe, but there's very small differences (in the order of the questions as well) to prevent cheating! I must say that I don't believe there's cheaters in here, so I will reset things to see that we're getting the same questions every day.

Oh, that's it: I was just wondering why I didn't spot The Simpsons question; but I checked my cache and I didn't get one. I doubt we've got any cheaters here, either.

...but I do know there's a Simpsons question lurking in the database somewhere.(teeth1) Bet it's that barbershop quartet episode (B-Sharps or something? Saw it years ago but don't remember much about it now, of course).

By the way, Bobber, can I place a link to this quiz on my Beatles website's main page?
It will also attract more players ;)

The timing on the quiz site is very dodgy. That 30 seconds I did yesterday is practically impossible if you're going to read the questions, or even skim through them. I've been lucky with a few of my answers too. Crash and burn tomorrow!

Posted by: Bobber, June 10, 2008, 9:52am; Reply: 88
Yeah, that was ridiculous! I thought John officially signed the papers somewhere in the mid seventies. I thought '74 (see May Pang's book), but that was not in the list of answers. I subsequently filled in 75, but that was wrong. I knew that!
Posted by: BlueMeanie, June 10, 2008, 10:23am; Reply: 89
I thought '74 or '75 was when they were legally 'dissolved'. The alternative would have been 1970, as that's when McCartney released his statement. But that wasn't there!

I know. There's not much I can do about that. I have set up a mixed bag of questions and I tried to avoid double subjects, but that's not always possible.

They're really easy today. I actually thought I'd done it quicker than 41 seconds!! There's a couple of semi-tough questions that have both come up before.

mess, it took me 51 seconds. I had to think about Ringo's red coat and had to reread the FM question.

Tip of the day: I got a pen pad a couple of weeks ago. Helps you navigate a page and select the answer much quicker than any mouse I've ever used.

Call to everybody: PLEASE PLAY FAIR! I have banned yesterday's winner (and today's runner up) Winston, who has played today under another name (peters78039) as well. This is supposed to be fun, a little test for yourself with a slight competitive element. Nothing more, nothing less. So, please play fair or don't play at all. Thanks.

bluemeanie, what do u mean of the pen and pad approach? I'm intrigued although confused as to how it would help think of the answeres quicker?

exactly, the obvious answer for me was the "which beatle titles have two of the beatles names in them?" or something along that note, I thought it meant which songs mention the Beatles names in the lyrics, otherwise it would have been bloody obvious! I keep failing to get my 10/10!

It's a shame that some of the more knowledgeable people don't play regularly enough. You and I will win this every month because we play every day. There are several others who could do the same and make the competition tighter. I wondered if a few people were not playing so much because it was impossible for them to win? One of the reasons I thought I might stand down.

It's a fun quiz but you have to get into the habit of playing every day, especially as, apparently, some questions come up a second time.

The points system seems complicated and a bit strange. Is it explained on the site somewhere?

I hope the quiz continues through the winter since I imagine that, like me, that's when people are more often on their computer.

Given time Bobber and Blue Meanie may well be challenged in their supremacy!

Lot's of questions have been asked several times, and some have the wrong answer. So you have to remember the wrong answer! The questions about chord progressions kill me every time!
Posted by: Bobber, September 23, 2008, 6:46pm; Reply: 217
Everybody started with a thousand points. Every wrong answer will cost you a hundred points. Plus every second you use is a point down. So, two wrongs answers and 51 seconds will make 749 points.

I guess you mean this: correct answers - the time you used.

Although I can never reach the top list, I almost play every day. I always see that I really don't know enough about them. I've only had twice 10/10 and never won, but never mind.

OK. That's for the score but I'm more intrigued by the points awarded.
For example at the moment Afox took only 4 seconds more than Bobber to get the ten correct answers and he's 2points down on him. But Sewi who took a massive 92 seconds more than me to get the ten is only one point down on me.

That's the running order. Depending on the number of players, number 1 gets (for instance) 12 points, number 2 10 etcetera.

Here are yesterday's points. How come Afox doesn't get 26 points?
How come the last seven players all get 4 points?
And how come (most important of all!) I get 18 and not 22?

My theory:
#1 and the runners up get a sort of bonus. From there, points are dropping on a regular base. That's also the reason why you got awarded with 18 points and not 22. The top ten players get the most points. As soon as you dropped to #11, your points are going down dramatically and the same thing happens when you're under #20. It's a complex thing, isn't it?  ;D  Most important thing of all is the fun you should put out of it, a little test for yourself. Don't take it too serious.

In my opinion the more you understand the rules the more interesting a game is.
As you've noticed it's extremely important to be in the top ten.So if you're the last person to play you should look at the scores and work out what tactics to use to get there (speed vs correct answers maybe).
I really feel sorry for Yavanna yesterday who got 5 points at number eleven, just one point more than the player who came last at 27!
What you said about the difference between 20 and 21 is not at all substantiated from yesterday's scores.
As for taking it seriously, I'm reminded of what Sir Alex Ferguson once said about football when asked if it was a matter of life and death. His answer? No, of course not, it's much more serious than that! ;)

That was Bill Shankly, a very long time ago.

But you don't know what questions you're gonna get. Plus if you have the same score as somebody who played earlier, you will be one place lower.

Whoops, I was replying about Shankly.

So, if I understand correctly, it's better not to play too late or you can be automatically demoted.

In my opinion, whoever understands the scoring system completely should be instantly awarded the monthly prize!

Well, it depends on what tactics you choose! Playing late can have advantages.

Ask funtrivia about the scoring system. I'm giving up.  ;D

I think lethargy got the better of me at one point. It would be nice to have some questions that we haven't had before. There's meant to be around 4500 Beatles questions on there. Not sure whether to carry on or let a few of the other regulars shine.

8. This song is a re-writing of the song "It Won't Be Long". Name the song.

The correct answer was Any Time At All.

I guessed that as wel, but I really have no idea what the connection between one of these must be. I thought it was one of the many things I don't know about the bealtes (songs), but If even you don't know  :)

This quiz is a mess from time to time:we all know that there is at least one wrong answer to one question about Ringo's credits and there are some other weird -to say the least- answers too.It is expected from all of us to learn and remember wrong answers to win.Bah!

"John admitted Any Time At All was a rewriting of his earlier song It Won't Be Long, using the same chord progressions from C to A minor and back and, when it came to recording, employing the same bawling vocal style."

Posted by: zipp, October 9, 2008, 4:21pm; Reply: 257
Well the question was the one about Eight Days A Week.

The 'right' answer was 'John's chauffeur'...
but in the book Many Years From Now, Paul specifically points out that the title was inspired from a chauffeur he'd never seen before who was driving him out to John's house, so it couldn't possibly have been Alf Bicknell, John's chauffeur, who he knew very well.

Was this the question you were thinking of?

I think it's interesting to talk about the answers once the scores have been added up for the day.
I don't think there are that many wrong answers in fact just the occasional one.

There are only a few wrong answers that I've come across. The problem is usually in the way that the question has been asked. Some of them are extremely misleading. And some are almost impossible to interpret. But the main problem I find is people not making it clear whether they're talking about US or UK releases.

Yeah. The question about I Me Mine being the last recording under the Beatles name was explained in an extremely convoluted way even if, in the end, it was in fact the right answer.
