DM's Beatles forums / Different Conversations / Last movies you saw & what you thought of them

I've spend pretty much my whole weekend watching DVDs, so here goes:
Chapter 27 Basically this is little more than Jared Leto dressed up as Mark Chapman holding a 85 minute monologue. It doesn't really help this movie that Chapman is really an incredibly uninteresting person.
Sam's Lake A very typical movie about a group of friends who go on a trip to a deserted little cabin in the woods and get slaughtered by a bunch of psychos. The actors are so bad that you really don't mind that they get killed though. Nice unexpected plot twist in the middle, but after that the movie really doesn't go anywhere and then stops without a decent ending.
Chronos No actors, no script, no talking, just a 45 minute montage of speeded up footage of landscapes, cities and monuments with strange music. Not too exciting, but there are some really spectaculair images.
Night at the Museum I don't think that movies really need to be realistic, but a somewhat believable plot would've been nice... Some parts were funny and Robin Williams is always great, but I thought that was more a children's movie.
Premonition Sandra Bullock loses her husband in a car accident. The next morning she finds him in the kitchen having breakfast. It turns out the days of the week have been scambled. Instead of seriously trying to prevent the accident from happening she decides it's better to just go running around, acting confused and yelling at people. Interesting concept, dissapointing execution.

I haven`t seen any of the above mentioned unfortunately. Recently, i ve seen Hancock with Will Smith. The movie is stupid and the plot is banal, though some scenes are very funny. I didn`t like the first part of the film, but the second part improved the whole impression.
The films I really enjoyed were: An Incident In Las Vegas (not sure what it is called in English) with Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Dias, a comedy, very funny; and the second film is In Brugge (again don`t know the English name) with Colin Farrel. This is a very good film, clever, psychological, a lot of close-up scenes.
On DVD I ve seen lately, though it is not a new film, Coffee and Cigarettes by Jim Jarmusch. A series of conversations about life, some of them are really good.

;D
I want to see a movie in which a bunch of Hollywood writers and producers go off into the woods and get killed by some random psycho / nerd who rents a bum movie from Blockbuster and wants his five dollars back after watching it on TV in his parents' basement.

Good. Apart from "Chronos" I wouldn't really recommend any of them.

"Hancock". I thought it was pretty funny. It had its moments.
But for me, nothing's going to beat Bateman!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you, Jude!!!
On DVD - Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. The film is beautiful, classical. And what a man! Impossible not to fall in love with. Though i doubt all me are crazy about Keira.

Yes, that one is not bad, but I like the older version with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle better.

The ending was a shocker , not your typical Hollywood ending , and that mad Bible bashing women was really scary

I saw Mama Mia the other day. It was cute. Not as good as the play, but still fun. And oh yeah, The Dark Knight.
I want to see 1984 again. Maybe I'll get it on Netflix. This is a movie I think would be cool if they redid it. It's certainly more relevant today than when both the book and the movies came out.

Marcia Gay Harden. She's a brilliant actress. I love her! Best thing about that movie probably. It's hard to do a Stephen King story right.

Agree Sandra i liked her performance very much in this film .
I watched Malcolm McDowell in Lindsey Anderson's "O Lucky Man" last night , what a cinematic masterpiece , this film is it's just so surreal .
And it's got a very foxy looking Helen Mirren in an early role and dear old Aurther Lowe and Sir Ralph Richardson giving great perfomances .
Alan Price's musical score is also very good .

Funny Games with Michael Pitt, Brady Corbet, Naiomi Watts, and Tim Roth. This is a movie where it is really to describe what the movie is about and still make it sound as good as it was. It was a perfect balance of pshycotic brilliance with a dash of comedy. Because what they were doing
was sick and twisted but you found yourself laughing at points and never really hating them. The director was also brilliant in how he just made it what it was, and it is a screen by screen remake of the original which came out in 1997. It's hard to explain but here's the trailor and it is worth watchng.

An oldie? What's something like The Breakfast Club than? Ancient? ;)
Just thought of that one because of the annoying new JC Penny commercial where they mimic scenes from the movie. All of a sudden the eighties are retro.

I saw Good Will Hunting again, I guess for the 10th time or something like that. Man, I love that movie... The story is really cheesy, if I would've been an actor or director and would've gotten the script on paper, I probably would've rejected it... But Gus Van Sant managed to turn it in to one of my all-time favorite movies. Has hand down my all time favorite soundtrack, probably my favorite closing scene and I guess Robin Williams plays the best role I've ever seen anyone play.

Gus Van Sant he directed My Own Private Idaho and Last Days. Two good movies, in my own opinion.
10 Things I Hate About You isn't really old, it came out in like 2001, didn't it? I like that movie, but I can't stand how the poem at then end lists way more than 10 things. But besides that it is a cute little movie.
I love The Breakfast Club!

Me too. Incredible how they made such a great movie with five actors and a high school library... And the characters are so good... Last time I saw that movie I realized that you really just have to ask anyone who has seen that movie which character(s) of The Breakfast Club he or she relates to the most, and you pretty much know what kind of person he or she is...

No Country for Old Men, but I LOVED it!! It was an amazing movie. I was just talking about this movie the other day with the friends I went to see The Dark Knight with! We were comparing actual Oscar caliber performances. Javier Bardem definitely deserved his! And Josh Brolin was pretty great too. Hope you enjoy them! :)

I
love John Hughes' eighties teen angst films!!! He really caught teen life at that time pretty accurately.
I related to the Judd Nelson character most at that time, with a little of the Ally Sheedy character thrown in. Don't know what that says, but I've changed a lot since then. ;D

The dialogue is fantastic in it. No wonder it won best original screenplay at the Oscars this year. I recommend this movie.

My favourite angst film by John Hughes is Some Kind of Wonderful. It's like a gender-reversed version of Pretty in Pink, but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better.
I re-watched West Side Story last night and was so impressed by it. Many people don't realize how much it changed musical theatre. Although it always annoyed me that they dubbed Natalie Wood's singing.

Yeah, but I'm glad she was in it. She's one of those unique actresses that only could have existed in that specific time period. I love her. She did a great job too, I think. I don't mind when they dub in voices because I'd rather have that Broadway sound. But usually the Broadway actors don't translate well on the movie screen. They tend to over project or exaggerate when acting. Like in Mama Mia, I loved Meryl Streep in the part, but even though she can sing, I'd have much preferred it if they dubbed her voice. Her style of singing didn't fit the feel of the songs.
Oh yeah, and while I also prefer Some Kind of Wonderful, Pretty in Pink is THE definitive wrong side of the tracks movie. It's a classic. The music, Molly Ringwald, Ducky. I just wonder what people fifty years from now will think of the clothes!

Really? I loved Meryl Streep's singing in Postcards From The Edge. Then again, her style is more rough than ABBA. I can't wait to see Mamma Mia!

I went to see Dark Knight on friday. It was a good action film. Heath Leadger indeed did a great joker [but then i suppose johhny depp would have made a good joker too]. And man, i loved Gary Oldman! excellent charcter! there was hardly any batman in it actually... it was mainly Gary Oldman, Heath Ledger and Aaron Eckhart or whatever his name is.
I would have enjoyed it more, if it had a message... but then it is an action movie...

OK, I'll admit it: I absolutely love bad horror movies. When it comes to horror, I have an almost unlimited tolerance for bad acting, plot holes and clichees. And believe me, few movies I've ever seen had more of all that than "Lake Dead". It was just hilarious how bad the script and the actors (besides the villains, they were OK) were. But what made this so enjoyable was how blatantly they tried to distract the viewer from noticing that. They just threw in some gorgeous women (with no acting skills whatsoever) and an awful lot of attempts at shocking the viewer. Sometimes cheap (sex scenes), sometimes annoying (an Amy Winehouse type of character who uses the f-word in every fu... eh, single sentence), sometimes just disturbing (a guy French kissing his mother before he attempts to go rape his niece) and sometimes actually really shocking (one of the most disgusting torture/murder scene I've ever seen). So unless you also have a thing for bad horror movies, don't let the beautiful, mysterious looking DVD cover fool you and stay away from this as far as possible.

In Hancock I didn`t like the first half of the film, but I enjoyed the second one, while in Dark Night it was the opposite: I liked the first half, but found the second one too protracted and full of lecturing and moralizing.

August Rush
Take the movie "Olivier Twist", put then in a blender, add a little bit of "Annie" and "Good Will Hunting" (but replace maths with music), add a big pile of dog sh*t and a pound of artifical sweeteners. Then you get "August Rush".
The Mist
Good movie, excellent ending. One of the few plot twists (along with those of The Others, The Village and The Sixth Sense) that literally had my jaw dropping.
The Ruins
A little bit boring, I actually fell asleep for a few minutes. At least there were a few good horror scenes and they managed to make a movie about flesh eating plants not unintentionally funny.

The Dark Knight
I'm not much of a superheroes fan, but I loved Batman Begins. And The Dark Knight got so many great reviews, so I was expecting a lot of this movie. And maybe that's why I actually thought it was a little bit dissapointing. Sure, there's not a boring minute, the special effects are sensational and Heath Ledger as the Joker was one of the best roles I've ever seen anyone play, but I didn't think the story was all that great... Really good movie, but maybe I just expected too much.
The Eye
I'm getting a bit tired of horror/thrillers that have you looking at a mostly dark screen 3/4 of the time, waiting for something scary to happen. That trick's really getting old. Also, why do characters in horror movies always react to things completely different than any sane real life person would? You see the ghost of a person that died a tragic death a few days earlier... Oh well, that could happen, no big deal... It happens again... Hmm, that's a little weird, still no really big deal... It happens a third time... OK, now's the time for a major panic attack...

Solstice
A few months after her twin sister has committed suicide, Megan spends a few days at her parents' summer house in Louisiana with her friends. She soon finds out that the house is haunted and she thinks the ghost is her sister's. A pretty standard horror story with a nice plot twist. Not bad but not great either. Oh well, it was worth an hour and a half of my Sunday afternoon.
Wind Chill
A female student wants to go home to Delaware for the holidays and gets offered a ride by a male co-student who she doesn't know. During the six hour drive, she finds out that the guy isn't actually from Delaware but that he's obsessed with her and just wanted to spend six hours in a car with her. Then they have an accident on a deserted road and get stuck in the snow. At first this seemed to be a pretty cool psychological thriller, but eventually it turned out to be a far fetched horror story with a crappy ending.

Not really movies, but I've been watching the TV adaptations of Stephen King's 'Nightmares & Dreamscapes'. Mostly pretty good so far, the episode 'Battleground' about a hitman who is attached by toy soldiers is particularly good. It's rare to see an hour long film without any dialog!
Tonight I might watch the 2004 remake of Salem's Lot. Does anyone know if it's any good? The original is excellent, but seems to be pretty unavailable.

It's ok actually. It's a lot closer to the book than the original mini-series of 1979 and Rob Lowe does a good job as Ben Mears.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - I'd say this is a good addition to the Indy saga. I lamented the use of CGI in the film (George Lucas - what else did I expect?) but it was good to see the trademark hat and whip again. Cate Blanchett was sexy as hell in this movie as well.
The Strangers - Don't waste your money. The most pointless exercise in film since the Devil's Rejects.

Very amateurish, the acting and the special effects were terrible. And the final scene was just awkward silly. And who ever came up with the idea that Balki from Perfect Strangers would make a believable bad guy?
The Big One
Rik Mayall in a somewhat serious role, not a very good idea... He should stick to smashing Adrian Edmondson's brains in and vice versa.

I love Stephen King, but the thought of electricity pylons trashing the earth is just too laughable. Sometimes you can go too far.

Actually they're not trashing the earth, but the past. But I agree, it's certainly not one of his better stories.

I saw Margot At The Wedding last weekend. Pretty boring, although it featured Nicole Kidman. Probably lots of layers that I didn't pick up!

I agree with you about the acting, but I thought that one of the good things was that they stayed really close to the original story. There weren't too many differences between the book and the movie.

Oh yeah, that one... I'm not a big Stephen King fan, or rather not a big horror fan, but I rather liked that one... The one I like quite a bit is the Green Mile. Anyone else likes it? We had to watch it for English class at school. I think it's a really good movie... good story, good acting too 8) Very sad though, in parts...
The last movie I saw was Wall-e. I really liked it! 8) I haven't seen such a good cartoon/animated movie in a long time! It reminded me of those awesome cartoons I used to watch as a kid back in the 90's :)

Excellent movie!
Illegal TenderI absolutely hated this one. I had to watch it because I had to write a review (so obviously it got 1 out of 5 stars). The acting was awful, the story was awful, the music was awful (reggaeton and R&B) and I hated the main characters (a spoiled, juvenile brat and his slutty mom) so I really couldn't care less if they got a happy ending or not.
The Spiderwick ChroniclesA good modern day fairytale. The story was OK and the trolls, elves, goblins and ogres looked pretty cool. But for a children's movie (which it basically is) I did think it was maybe a bit too violent at some points.
The EntityAbout a woman who frequently gets raped by a ghost. Supposedly based on a true story. Nothing special really.
[REC]Now
this is a great movie. I've seen a whole lot of horror movies, but this was definately one of the scariest ones. I'll admit that I sometimes turn the sound off when a movie gets really scary (they're always subtitled anyway), I think that in total I had the sound off for about 10-15 minutes during this movie... It's Spanish, but don't let that be a reason to not go see it. It starts off with a female TV reporter, Angela, and her camera man Pablo who follow a couple of local fireman during their night shift. That night they get locked up in an appartment building where some really weird things are happening. The entire movie is made as if it's filmed by Pablo, so you really get the feeling that you're trapped in the building with these people.

The last movie I saw was Bridget Jones's Diary. I had seen it before, and I still think it's a rather enjoyable film, even for a chick flick. Hugh Grant or Colin Firth- the most difficult decision a woman can make!

Seriously, it`s a good film, but one has to watch it twice. A lot of things escape during the first watch. It is very strange, but I know great fans of that film. Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz are starring. Hugh did a great job, fantastic. What I am also drawn by to this film is the soundtrack. Its force.

I'm watching "Hitchcock's The British Years box set " at the moment .
It's got Hitchcocks first film "The Pleasure Garden"(1925) included, i had never seen this silent film before which he made in Germany when he was 25 .
I found this film quite facinating 70 minutes of really strange flickering images , it's like looking into a forgotten world , it's set in the music hall's of the 20's , the storey revolves around two men falling in love with the same chorus girl , the scantly clad "Virginia Villi" , she drives these two men mad with desire with her strange erotic dancing .
It's like watching one of those old "What The Butler Saw Films " .
Film censorship had obviously not fully taken over at this point in film history , young Hitchcock brings to the screen quite a saucy romp .
Many of the sexual obsession themes of his later work , you can see in embryo in this film.
"The Pleasure Garden " is a real insight into this great directors mind .
It's also got a wild musical score by "Lee Erwin" played on one of those old cinema organs , which i really enjoyed .
It's well worth a watch this film if your a fan of Hitchcock , truely a facinating bit of film history .

Hi Dave, I've wondered about that set. I figured I wouldn't be disappointed even if some were silent because it's HITCHCOCK! With your endorsement I'll probably so ahead and make the purchase. Thanks! Dana ; )

I'll have to go look for it. I saw
North By Northwest again a week or so ago, and it knocked me out. Hitchcock's one of those guys whose construction and artfulness are so solid that his films often get better with repeated viewings. :)

I think this Hitchcock box set is brilliant you get 10 films .
The Lodger ,The 39 Steps ,Sabotage,Young and Innocent ,The Lady Vanishes and Jamaica Inn , have all been digitally restored the picture and sound quility is superb .
I only had a copy of 39 Steps on DVD prior to this release , so i'm seeing these films for the first time in many years .
I watched The Lady Vanishes yesterday afternoon and i must say the restoration of this film is outstanding , last time i saw this on TV it was such a bad copy it was so grainy and scratched , but this version has brought the film back to life , this 70 year old film now looks and sounds wonderful .
The Lady Vanishes i think is one of Hitchcocks best films the acting ,script and directing are fantastic you can see why Hollywood wanted him , it's a masterclass in film making Margaret Lockwood and Michael Redgrave the leads are every bit as good as Cary Grant and Grace Kelly in the Hollywood films in my opinion , they just sparkle in every scene .
There are some great extra's also inparticular the "Aquarius " documentery Alfred The Great which is a 60 minute film of Hitchcock on the set of "Frenzy" you see Hitchcock in 70's London directing this film , he's also interviewed at length in the studio about is life and films and it's in colour .
I bought this collection at HMV for 25 pounds , which i think is outstanding value .
Well worth the money .(smile)(thumbsup)

Shrooms
The familiar old horror story yet again: a few young, good looking people go camping in the woods and get slaughtered one by one. They tried to give it a twist by adding the fact that one of the women ate some kind of magic mushroom which enables here to see all the murders before they actually happen. But that can't change the fact that it's basically still the same old story and not even one of the better versions of it.

Agree. The end brings you a different point of view about the reality of the story but it does not save the script.

There will be blood.
This completely baffled me. I like movies that go outside the box and this was wonderful to look at and listen to. But it lacked a hero, everyone was a villian, people come and go and so many threads were left untied. From what I could see it wsas neither a story of fall from grace or redemption. The critics loved it, but then they would. Strange.

Cute movie. Most of the covered songs were slowed down and were boring. They did, however, did justice to some of the songs. The plot was great, and the actors were, too. And Joe Anderson, who plays Max, is some major eye candy!

The Happening
I really used to be a fan of M. Night Shyamalan's work. "The Sixth Sense", "Unbreakable" and "The Village" were excellent. But "Lady in the Water" was a huge dissapointment and this one's even worse. Shyamalan basically made a movie of an idea for a story instead of an actual story...
The Darjeeling Limited
About three brothers who are traveling through India by train. It looks like a comedy, but it isn't funny, so in the end it's just weird. The story really doesn't go anywhere.
Starship Troopers 3
OK, this was pretty much the other way around: this one is funny while it's not meant to be a comedy. Childish story, amateurish execution, so it's probably destined to become a cult hit.
Requiem for a Dream
Very good, impressive movie, but pretty depressing...

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
I think it's a reasonable addition to the first three movies. Harrison Ford still pulls it off, he doesn't really come off as an old man. One thing that annoyed me a bit though was that the characters just for some reason kept falling from great heights and that nobody ever had even a scratch. If the plot is unrealistic, it doesn't mean that every element of the story has to be unrealistic...

My hubby likes James Bond a lot, so I decided to watch some films that he had borrowed.
First I watched "Live and Let Die" (take a wild guess why :P ) and I thought it was.....eh. I don't like Roger Moore for some reason, and the storyline was kind of dumb. Great theme song, though! (*cough cough cough*)
Then I saw "From Russia With Love" and thought that Sean Connery was a better Bond than Moore. However, I'm pretty much convinced at this point that James Bond needs to check into rehab for sex addicts (hehe). He always needs to be humping somebody. ;D
I saw "Casino Royale" starring Daniel Craig when it first came out in theaters. Although I'm not a big Bond fan, I thought it was a very well-done film, and Craig did an awesome job.

Comandante
A documentary by Oliver Stone. These are 90 minutes of the 30 hours of interviews that Stone did with Fidel Castro a few years ago. I think it's a bit too chaotic and it's annoying to constantly hear the interpreter talking through it, but it certainly is an interesting historical document. Cause if you like him or not, Fidel is a living legend, and it's certainly interesting to hear him talk about his coup, Che Guevara, the Bay of Pigs Invasion, Kennedy...

Yeah, I liked Casino Royale too. Looking forward to Quantum of Solace 8)
Last one I saw (today actually) was The Duchess. To be honest I didn't really enjoy it because the story is so sad. I felt awful for the duchess herself :( Being forced to marry someone she didn't love, nor did he love her, for the sole purpose of "social standing" and "producing an heir", and having to tolerate her husband's affairs, selfishness, and worse... :( I suppose it was the fate of many women back then, and it was considered normal or something, but that whole situation really annoyed me. And I seriously wanted to throw popcorn, or something heavier, at Ralph Fiennes' character >:( What a complete..... grrrr!! >:(
But, the acting was very good, and nice costume/set design too :)

Tropic Thunder: Okay, this movie was not what I was expecting AT ALL. It was hilarious! I thought it was going to be more of a celebration of Holywood, but it really turned out to be a twisted yet accurate satire. I would highly recommend it for movie buffs.

Rented a DVD of 'The Flock' with Richard Gere. The gimmicks introduced by the producer/director almost made it unwatchable, but it was quite a seedy film with a place where all sorts of perversions take place, including chopping off the hands and feet of girls and, in one case, stripping off her face. It's like these new type horror movies which dwell on mutilation and torture, particularly of groups of young girls. There must be something wrong with people who can enjoy these - but they must be popular because they keep on making additional Saw and Hotel movies. I prefer the type of fantasy horror, such as the Hammer movies. I watched The Devil Rides Out again the other night and really enjoyed it

What happens when some of your favourite movies are re-made? How do they compare with the original. There are various trends in Hollywood, one is to make a feature film from a former television series, another is to film a remake. I haven't bothered to see the remake of 'The Wicker Man', but I bet it isn't as good as the original. The remake of 'Get Carter' was bad, the remake of 'The Italian Job' was a completely different film, using only the title, the remake of 'The Lady Killers' was abominable. At the moment they seem to be re-making every science fiction movie that was released in the Fifties.

The remake of 'Get Carter' was bad, the remake of 'The Italian Job' was a completely different film, using only the title, the remake of 'The Lady Killers' was abominable. At the moment they seem to be re-making every science fiction movie that was released in the Fifties.
Agree very much. But let me turn the question around: can anybody think of a movie of which the remake was
better than the original? There must be some, but I'm stumped.

The Amityville Horror.
The original was bad, the remake also wasn't great but it did have some of the creepiest, most chilling horror scenes I've ever seen.

That movie made me suspicious of everything!
Lol
Do you think it's based on real events?
The techniques shown in the film are certainly employed in politics and during the elections because nobody is going to give up power just like that...

Maybe it's an unfair comparison - but 'Ben Hur'!

Daniel Craig continues to grow into the role of Bond , he's very good , hope he doe's a few more .

Casino Royale (2006) is much better than the spoof version from 1967 Geoff ?

I thought the remake of Cape Fear with Robert De Niro far superior to the wooden acting of the original with Robert Mitchum.

Talking of Bond, wasn't Sean Connery's 'Never Say Never Again' a re-make of one of his previous Bond outings - and how do you think it compared with the original?

It's a remake of Thunderball.

I think Thunderball was better , but "Never Say Never Again" is not a bad film , it's as good in my opinion as some of the offical Bond films ?
It's better than "A View To A kill " for a start , dear old Roger was way to old for the Bond role by then .
EON should buy the film and make it an offical Bond ?

Okay, that blows me out of the water completely. It's light years ahead of the original. ;D

Yes, and it was the outcome (or maybe just one installment) of
a long-running dispute between Kevin McClory and the Eon group. I think
Thunderball is better, but
Never Say Never Again is arguably better paced. :)

I'll have to go look for the Cape Fear and Amityville remakes. Through some odd process I've managed to see the originals but not the new versions.

There are not many remake's i can think off Geoff that are better but Casino Royale certainly is , having said that the 60's version doe's have some charm .
George Clooney is doing a remake of Hitchcock's "The Birds" , so i understand , wish they would leave well alone, it will be a CGI nightmare i think .
(thumbsdown)

It does, actually, in a loose episodic sort of way; but it completely falls apart at the end.
Can't imagine why George Clooney or anyone else would want to take on Hitchcock. It could easily be a career-damaging fiasco.

What about the re-make of 'Psycho'
Posted by: pc31, November 15, 2008, 3:45pm; Reply: 166
it seems that weather the remake of a movie is better or not is purely a personal opinion or a bunch of them..to say one is better than the other is personal conjecture....let's say we think about the time and situation inplay when a movie gets released compared to the life and times happening when the remake comes along........that being said i believe critics are a contrived sort of job and i have no use for them...that being said i do value peoples personal opinions that i am accquainted with...that's includes people here....so go watch red.lol

I heard that it was a shot-by-shot reconstruction of Hitchcock's; not so much as a re-make as a copy. It was probably an instructive exercise for the director, but I don't know what the advantage would be for audiences. I haven't seen it myself. :)

My hubby went out to see Quantum of Solace and liked it. I didn't watch it, but I'm posting this because I heard that the redheaded Bond girl in the film was named Strawberry Fields...ooooh. Supposedly she was never mentioned by her full name during the movie (my husband said she was only called "Ms. Fields"), but I thought that was a cool Beatles reference to drop in!

What`s wrong with me? I didn`t notice any redheaded girls! Maybe you are confusing something?

Are you sure you didn't confuse my reference with Casino Royale....? :( Anyhow, this is the girl I was referring to:

She looks like a redhead to me...
There are more photos of Strawberry Fields on this page:

Yes, I saw the movie 8 days ago and the girl wasn`t that redheaded or it is that i just don`t remember exactly what the colour was, cause she appeared in an episode. And she isn`t Bond`s girl, the main one. I immediately pictured The Spanish blackhaired girl played by Olga Kurilenko.

I watched The Transformer 2 tonight and just after, switched to another channel and there was the remake of 'The Omen'. Why bother remaking it? The cast couldn't match Gregory Peck and Lee Remick and Mia Farrow couldn't send shivers down your spine like Billie Whitelaw. We also watched the Spanish film 'The Orphanage.'

The Omen is so out there.
I hate scary movies haa haa.

Still on the subject of remakes, wasn't Nicole Kidman's 'The Invasion' the third re-make of 'Invasion Of The Body Snatchers'? Watch out for remakes of Forbidden Planet, The Day The Earth Stood Still and When Worlds Collide.

It seems that through a series of aquisitions and mergers, 'Never Say Never' is under the same roof as all the other Bond films.

I loved the original 'The Thing From Another World', although the monochrome version on DVD has more atmosphere than the colorised version. The remake 'The Thing' was also a very good film. Which proves the point that someone made about the differences in re-makes and how both the original and the remake could have their good points.

I watched "Prince Caspian" Disney's second instalment of The Chronicles Of Narnia , i really enjoyed the film it's much darker than the previous film The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe , which i also enjoyed.
Lucy , Peter ,Susan and Edmund are real killing machine's in this one , the body count is quite high for Disney.
Director Andrew Adamson skillfully directs his young cast of actors again and the CGI effects are brilliant .
A really enjoyable fantasy film , well worth a watch.
I loved the Narnia books as a kid , it's great to see these books filmed so well, makes this big kid happy (thumbsup)

Talking of remakes, what about the remakes of TV series. It seems that the majority of TV series have ended up as feature films. How do they compare with the originals? I haven't seen Get Smart, so I wouldn't know. The Avengers was awful. We've had Maverick, the Dukes of Hazzard, the Beverly Hillbillies, the Adams Family, My Favourite Martian and scores of others. How many can you remember?
Posted by: Bill Harry, November 20, 2008, 10:12pm; Reply: 182
were Hammer Films the first company to begin making features from TV series with the Quatermass movies? Also, in the 70s they turned to lots of TV series. Numerous British TV series were turned into features - Steptoe & Son, the Likely Lads, Nearest & Dearest, On The Buses and so on. Just how many American TV series ended up as features - recent ones include Bewitched.

^^man, the Bewitched movie was terrible!!! Like come on, Will Farrel and Nicole Kidman, you'd expect better!!
Last movie I saw was Saw 5 - possibly the most disgusting, disturbing and twisted movie I've ever seen!!
Posted by: Bill Harry, November 21, 2008, 9:30am; Reply: 184
The basic trouble with the 'Bewitched' movie was the plot. When is series 7 and 8 due out on DVD? Incidentally, when you think of re-makes, there is also the case of TV series being re-made as TV series, such as 'Battlestar Galactica.' I believe there were others. I haven't seen any of the 'saw' movies and don't intent to - I'll also steer clear of the 'Hostel' movies and other 'saw up and torture young girls' films which now seem to have replaced the traditional horror movies which wered originally made to scare not nauseate you.
Posted by: HeyJude18, November 21, 2008, 1:35pm; Reply: 185
Yeah I know what you mean Bill. Like "The Others" was an ok horror movie, except for the fact that I laughed through most of it!
I haven't seen Battlestar Galactica, I'd probably like it but I've never really gotten a chance to see it. I didn't even know it was a remake actually!!

Just seen a Spanish movie 'The Orphanage.' I think such pictures may need a different tag than 'horror.' My son is running the 'Battlestar Galactica' convention in London. Have a look at his site

Just saw "Into the Wild". I'm usually not a fan of movies that are that long (150 minutes), but it really never got boring. Pretty impressive movie, but I do believe that the critics who said that the real Christopher McCandless was probably an idiot more than he was a hero may have a point...
