Has anyone ever gone to any of these? They sound sort of interesting! Pattie Boyd's doing appearances lately too. How weird is that? Here's info on the latest one in Vegas and the one coming up in Chicago. If anyone lives in that area. Guess I missed out on the Vegas one. Not that I could have talked anyone into going with me! It's sort of like a Star Trek convention in a way. Only not as dorky! Heh.

LAS VEGAS WRAP UP: For all those in attendance, it was perhaps our greatest FEST ever. Pattie Boyd spoke on all three days and stayed till all autograph requests were completed. Her display of Photographs and Fashion were fabulous and she had a 12 minute Video running non stop in here Exhibit Room. Pattie will have the identical set up for the Chicago FEST, in 4 weeks! Donovan mesmerized the audiences each day with stories and song, plus full concerts on the second and third evenings, one acoustic and the other electric, with Liverpool backing him. He, too, signed for all fans who waited in line to meet him. All the other guests also contributed to the excitement of the show. An added bonus was Neil Innes, who dropped by to say hi and performed 2 Rutles songs. He announced that we will be having a second World Premiere of a new film on his life, called The 7th Python at our Chicago FEST on Saturday, August 9th at 11:00AM (earlybird special). Two members of the Cast of the LOVE show joined us on our stage to talk about their experiences on the show.
On a sad note, on Monday Night June 30th, we learned of the passing of Carol Lapidos' Father, Irwin Blum. For all of the FEST regulars, Irwin was the man at the Ticket Booth for all our FESTS, until a few years ago. He was 91 and will be sorely missed. Liverpool closed the concert with Imagine, dedicated to Irwin.

CHICAGO - AUGUST 8-10 -We have quite a line up of Special Guests for our third and final FEST for 2008 - So if you haven't made plans, don't delay! After July 25th, tickets go up in price. Guests include Pattie Boyd, Billy J. Kramer, Neil Innes, The Smithereens, Mark and Brett Hudson, Ken Mansfield, Nancy Lee Andrews, Allan Tannenbaum, Ian Wright, and others. The Smithereens will be performing on Saturday, Aug 9th - a Beatles set including songs from their latest CD, called b-sides The Beatles. The CD will be available at the FEST for the first time anywhere!!

MP's go mop-top ahead of Beatles Day
Jun 30 2008 by Ian Hernon, Liverpool Echo

GORDON Brown today revealed All My Loving as his favourite Beatles song – because he played it on the piano as a child.

Tory Leader David Cameron picked The Long and Winding Road. And Liberal Democrat supremo Nick Clegg opted for A Day in the Life.

Forget the European treaty, the credit crunch and even MPs' expenses, the most heated debate in Parliament and around the Cabinet table has been in answer to my question: What's your favourite Beatles song?

After an initial stunned silence they realised it was to promote the first-ever Beatles day in aid of the ECHO’s Liverpool Unites campaign and the Alder Hey Imagine appeal.

What was fascinating was that most regional and national politicians picked the ones that reminded them of happy incidents in their childhood or early adulthood.

And apart from a late surge for Hey Jude and Penny Lane, very few chose the same song.

Mr Brown explained his choice: "It is so hard to pick one because there are so many but this was my early favourite because it was the first I learnt to play on the piano when my parents sent me for lessons when I was young."

Chancellor Alistair Darling picked Strawberry Fields because, "It reminds me of the 60s at their best – in the words and music they are describing real life, unlike so many other songs of that time."

And younger politicians chose those that stayed in their memories long after the Beatles broke up.

Mr Cameron said: "I'm a McCartney fan and the Long and Winding Road was one of his last with the Beatles. He wrote it in Scotland where he always found inspiration.

"The road he was thinking of was the B842 which runs down Kintyre to Campbelltown, but the song is about much, much more than that. It has a wonderful melody and emotion and pretty much sums up the life of the Leader of the Opposition."

Mr Clegg said of A Day in the Life: "Even after all this time, it still sounds innovative and radical.

"The dramatic shift of gears musically leading to the powerful piano chords at the end are frighteningly effective, while the lyrics are incredibly effective by combining the mundane everyday life with the tragic death of someone in a car crash. It shows the Beatles at their edgy best."

Few politicians tried to make political capital out of their choice.

Northern Ireland Secretary Shaun Woodward, MP for St Helens South, spoke from the heart when he recited the words to Let It Be in the context of the long peace process.

He said: "It is a wonderful song which is particularly appropriate to my job. The lyrics speak to us all – no matter how difficult things might appear, no matter how dark the night, when you find yourself in times of trouble, there will be an answer."

Ministers with Merseyside seats, along with local backbenchers, tended to go for the tracks which reminded them of a particular time and place.

Justice minister Maria Eagle, MP for Garston, went for Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields: "There are so many brilliant songs, but I chose the double single because it is all about my bit of Liverpool and the Beatles' place in it."

Treasury Financial Secretary Jane Kennedy, MP for Wavertree, picked Get Back: "One of the best rock and roll songs ever."

Treasury Exchequer Secretary Angela Eagle, MP for Wallasey, chose Love Me Do because "it was the first I heard when I was two. Either that or Eight Days a Week because that's my usual ministerial workload."

Defence minister Derek Twigg, MP for Halton, went for Hey Jude: "I don't know why, it is just the one that has always stayed in my mind."

So too, for the same reason, did work and pensions Secretary James Purnell.

The choices of other senior ministers included:

Health Secretary Alan Johnson: It's Getting Better All the Time – "Just like the NHS."

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith: Penny Lane – "It was the song that taught me how to use my mum and dad's record player. I played it all the time."

Liverpool-born Culture Secretary Andy Burnham: Mr Moonlight – "It was on a tape of the early Beatles For Sale album which my dad gave my mum to play in the car when we were heading off for a summer holiday. It makes me feel I'm on holiday."

Commons Leader Harriet Harman: Love Me Do – "It was the first Beatles song I heard and the first record I bought."

Climate change minister of state Phil Woolas: I Feel Fine – "When I first heard the opening riff it was so exciting because that sound had never been heard before. It was a thrill I can recall 40 years later."

Sports minister Gerry Sutcliffe: Eleanor Rigby – "It was a heartfelt plea for the poor and all the lonely people, an anthem for the dispossessed."

In our lives we’ve loved them all . .

THE choices of all the other regional MPs were:

Peter Kilfoyle (Walton): In My Life – "Because it's a very good summary of my own philosophy."

Joe Benton (Bootle): She Loves You – "When I was in shipping with the Hughes firm, every year they put on a puppet show and that was always the song they sang. My children loved it."

Claire Curtis-Thomas (Crosby): Eleanor Rigby – "It is a marvellous song about the dispossessed in our society and it focused people's mind on that issue."

George Howarth (Knowsley North and Sefton East): A Hard Day's Night – "It had a kind of innocence and spoke directly to young working people."

Dave Watts (St Helens North): Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band – "It's the intro into the song. There's none better and it is recognised across the world."

Bob Wareing (West Derby): Yesterday – "I've been deselected by New Labour and will stand as Independent Labour at the next election, suddenly all my troubles seem so far away."

John Pugh (Southport): Love Me Do – "It got the feel of Liverpool in a way no-one else could. They got more sophisticated, but it brings back waves of nostalgia."

Ben Chapman (Wirral South): Norwegian Wood – "It's from Rubber Soul, which is to my mind the best Beatles album. The track is lyrical and reminds me of my youth."

Louise Ellman (Riverside): Hey Jude – "It's distinctive, wistful tone captured the sound of the Beatles at their best."

Eddie O'Hara (Knowsley South): She Loves You – "In 1962 when I was a young teacher, it was the first Beatles song I translated into Latin – it’s Amat te mehercle. I later translated the whole Beatles song book.”

Stephen Hesford (Wirral West): Here Comes the Sun – "Abbey Road was the first album I ever bought. It is all about being optimistic, I still play it from time to time."

Ian McCartney (Makerfield), former Labour party chairman: Hey Jude – "My first trip at sea, taking freight to the West Indies, I shared a cabin with another lad who played it 24/7."

Frank Field (Birkenhead): Please Please Me – "Because I was 21 when it was a hit."

Andrew Miller (Ellesmere Port and Neston): Eleanor Rigby – "I was a student working as a waiter in a holiday camp and everyone loved the album."

Rosie Cooper (West Lancashire): Help! – "I was 15 and on summer holidays in Ireland when it was No 1 and it brings back many happy memories."

Helen Jones (Warrington North): Hey Jude – "I played it non-stop when I was young and it stuck in my mind."

Helen Southworth (Warrington South): Yellow Submarine – "It became our family outing song after we visited the Beatles Garden at the international garden festival."

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk.....day-100252-21172392/
