Title: good song
Post by: on Nov 23, 2004, 08:59 PM
There is a cover of House of The Rising Sun on www.novaflow.net that you all have to listen to. I am always on the lookout for small bands, does anybody know any that are Beatles influenced?  I am new to this forum, but I figured there must be a lot people in a Beatles forum, so where better to chat about good 60's music.  Everybody keep on groovin.

Jet have been influenced by Beatles, Stones, Kinks... and more of the Beatles contemporaries.  They just love playing rock and don;t like being pigeonholed into a genre of music.  Listening to their stuff I can;t tell it was recorded int he last couple of years, they have a timeless sound.

I couldn't disagree more.
For me, Jet seem to perfectly fit into that pigeon hole of cliche 'retro' band, which is riding the hip wave that NME is often spamming. I don't see them as Beatle-Influenced, more Rolling Stones if anything, tipping the Blues/Rock.
I think the sound is deliberately 'historic' in nature..but does nothing for my own ears :)

I read an interview with Jet awhile ago and they were asked about their Beatles influence, and one of the members said that they just wrote a couple of tunes the Beatles forgot to when they were together.

Another cool interview I heard or read was from the band Coldplay. I dont get into them, but one of the members said he was listening to 'All Things Must Pass' on the plane between shows and he stated that he told the band that they didnt have any songs that were as good as the worse song on that record. He realized how great it was.

This new rock band Jet should be more popular with rock fans in the U. S. who want it real these days.  It's great they were influenced by the Beatles, the Stones, the Who, the Kinks & AC/DC speaking as an old classic rock fan.

Oh, this reminds me of this annoying Jet fan on another forum! She yelled at me and another girl when we simply stated that we don't like Jet. And then she tried to prove to me how "cool" she is by saying that she listens to the Beatles... misspelling Sgt. Pepper's and Abbey Road in the process. People like that really get on my nerves, so I acted especially condescending towards her and succeeded in pissing her off.
Ok, I'm done venting now.

No, the better one is the so called Led Zeppelin (or "Lead Zepplin" fans) who think that Led Zeppelin is a man.  Those people really piss me off.
