Ringo's own son has been  quoted as saying he prefers Moon and Bonham to his father who is a 'good time keeper'. If I was Ringo the child would be disinherited real fast-- what an idiotic remark

Just because Ringo`s son likes other drummers doesn`t mean anything!  Everyone`s entitled to their own opinion and in his opinion he prefers someone who isn`t his own father.  Heck if my parents did anything of the sort I probably wouldn`t consider them the best!

It were if my parents were something incredible, such as a musician, no matter how good the public thinks they are, to the "kid" that's still "mom" or it's still "dad".  It's just like, whoop dee doo, why would one expect someone to name their own parent as their favourite (fill in the blank).

I am sure that's how Julian & Sean Lennon and Dhani Harrison feel. Dhani's doing his own thing which I think is awesome. His music is unique and really good.

Well since Moon taught Zak how to play and Bonham was maybe the greatest rock drummer ever, it makes perfect sense to me.

Son of Ringo Starr and Maureen Starkey.

He was not taught by Ringo, but by his godfather, The Who drummer Keith Moon. Moon gave Zak his first drum set. When Moon died in 1978, Zak waited 10 years to replace him (1979-1987 drummer was Ex-Face/Small Face Kenney Jones.

do not wanna turn this into another drummers forum,but.........it is a well known fact that zak starkey did take up drumming more because of keith and not ringo-however,i'm sure ringo did play a part-how could he not?in the past zak has been pretty offhand about ringos' playing-only now does he say that..."my dad is the greatest drummer in the world.it's taken me years to get anywhere near his hand technique."for people who do not play the drums in can be pretty hard to explain what a good or bad drummer is.lots of music listeners do not appreciate the guy at the back.

moonie was 'out there' in every sense of the word-both behind his humongous kit, and in everyday life in general.
like tkitna says,bonzo was maybe the greatest rock drummer ever.(all opinion-we have had this conversation already todd!!,i think ian paice-but moonie is also up there in a big way).
ringo was,is and always will be ringo.enough said.

if i can give one bit of advice to anyone reading this,it would be take absolutely no notice of roscoes' opinions on drumming or drummers.i know more about open heart surgery than he knows about drumming.

You turkeynecks would change your tune if you ever heard the orig M Davis hit Four with Philly Joe on drums and Hank Jones on piano. It is 1954 so its not stereo( although a bass/treble job could be done with it similar to what was done with She Loves You) but it is one of the first high fidelity recs and the sound qual is tops. The version of Airegin with S Rollins( and not the hack Coltrane) on Sax is another M Davis classic from the same period but it is on another album.

Miles is in his glory on these two records as well as the later Devil May Care( stereo) He plays without a mute and actually in tune--which is a rarity.

I am not surprised that Moon liked Krupa. They are both the same-- all noise, no swing or feel for music. That is if you call Benny Goodman or the Who music. Krupa was a junkie as well-- I don't know if Moon was.

Moon and Ringo are different kinds of drummers, and I love both of them. When I want to listen to a drummer, I listen to Moon; when I want to listen to a song, I listen to the Beatles.

Actually, I've never been a big fan of Moon, though I can see why people like him. When I want to listen to a drummer specifically, I'll listen to Phil Collins in Brand X.

Iv'e never listened to much Phil Collins but i know what you mean its not just about his playing but his experimenting with his drum sound that makes it so appealing and grabs me in all his songs ihave heard

I love Ringo's drumming, obviously, and Bonzo was great too, but i feel the best drumming on any song is Moonie on 'Won't Get Fooled Again'.

Moon is mesmerizing. And I hate that his antics have taken away from the fact that he was incredibly skilled, innovative, and just damn good.

Anyone read 'Dear boy'? it's probably the best bio of Keith. The Beatles get quite a good mention, naturally. John was the only person on earth Moonie was in total awe and fear of!
There's a great story of the Beatles drinking in the whisky or one of the london clubs. Keith comes up and says...'Can I join you'?  Yeah sure, the boys say, have a seat.  Keith: 'No, can I JOIN you'?   a silence before Ringo says...'we've already got a drummer'! after the beatles took the young Keith to heart and they got on well. This book is one of the best rock bios written. Well worth a read for any fan of music. Cheers

I've read it a couple of times. Love it. Hate reading the ending though. Wish he could have gotten through his addictions.

Keith Moon's drumming was great until his last days. Just listen to "Who Are You". Wonderful.
