Penny Lane Problems

Since Penny Lane was first released on February 17 1967, how come it was already released in the United States on February 13 1967 as four days earlier. And another thing, how come it didn't become the number one hit winner, especially Strawberry Fields Forever?

Blame Englebert Humperdink for this not reaching No. 1. Also maybe Strawberry Fields was a little bit too weird for huge mainstream acceptance at first? I don't know for sure. You would have thought Penny Lane was a surefire No. 1??
