An experience maybe, but for me it's not an enjoyable experience.

I have to laugh at the criticism of Revolution 9. Does anyone honestly think that John thought Revolution 9 would be easy to listen to? I think that is the point. Does that mean you can't get something out of listening to it. Sometimes we get wonderful things out of unpleasant experiences. Society as a whole has become so pleasure oriented that the benefits of seeing something other has gotten lost. Pain can have benefits. Don't get me wrong though, I am not talking about being masochistic. I don't think listening to Revolution 9 could quite qualify as masochistic. Yeah, I know, you are saying, "Well to me it feels like it..." I have said so many times, listen, no, I mean really listen. Fully engaged listen, no distractions. It is a great experience.

I actually enjoy "Revolution 9" more than most people do. I like listening to it at quite high volume with the lights off. What I don't understand is that if you enjoy such unconventional experiments, why you don't like experimental bands from California (being a Californian yourself!). For example, After Bathing At Baxter's by Jefferson Airplane, released in late 1967, which I see as an amazing prelude of such avant-garde art. I must accuse you of blind devotion again (just kidding).

Yes, but my experience is also pleasant with two big old speakers very separated and at different positions, so that you can feel the stereo magic. ;)

from my post on http://www.dmbeatles.com/forums/index.php?topic=12050.msg279462#msg279462

I took the white album tracks and :

gave 1 point for a like
0 points for a neutral
-1 points for a dislike

I had 18 likes
3 neutrals
9 dislikes

for a total of +9

A double album with 18 tracks I like.  Stands up pretty well even though it was "up and down"

7th Dec 1968, The Beatles 'White Album' started a seven-week run at No.1 on the UK chart. The double set was the first on the Apple label and featured 'Back In The USSR', 'Dear Prudence', and the Harrison song 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps.'

There are a number of songs (mostly Paul's) that were recorded without he other Beatles present. Black bird, Why Don't We Do it In the Road, Julia (John), Mother Natures Son. There are several songs that arguably have 2 or 3 Beatles playing as well. A number of these songs also have them playing instruments they normally didn't play.
Interesting album to say the least!

Me too; it didn't even make it onto my iPod. The last thing I need is to wake up in the middle of the night to that! Welcome to the forum!

"Everybody's got something to hide..." is one of the most unique and powerful songs I've ever heard.  I also love Savoy Truffle.  I enjoy listening to the whole album through, but not always Revolution 9 :o

Revolution 9 scares me! But I like Savoy Truffle, too. I was just thinking about it yesterday. After sitting through a rather complicated root canal I thought that when I go back for the second one (unfortunately) I should take my iPod. Then I thought that I'd better make sure Savoy Truffle doesn't come up!

Those are two of my favorite tracks as well! If you listen to EGSTHSFMAMM and What Your Doing you can hear the beginnings of the guitar style for this song only down the scale. Fun!
