Quote from: In My Life on Nov 22, 2024, 11:21 PMThanks, zipp. I read all three installments of the article entitled The Beatnik Horror but the photo wasn't included. There's a lot of conflicting stories about this picture on the internet and another that looks like it was taken the same day. Still, I'm glad that I read the article. I'm not sure how factual it was, but it was interesting to see what the public wanted to read about the Beat Movement. It was made to sound like one big crime spree!

The Sunday People goes for sensational stories that the British can read on a Sunday morning when not much is happening. It's a tabloid newspaper and some would call it the gutter press.

In the fifties the bad boys were the Teddy Boys who were renowned for their snappy dressing, listening to rock and roll, and violence. The beatniks then arrived on the scene. They were more renowned for being lazy and immoral and listening to jazz. Both groups were perfect targets for this newspaper.

The photos of Gambier Terrace are genuine. The only real question is whether or not John Lennon is in the photos. Generally it's thought not.
