I'm glad you decided to join us NotTheWalrus! I don't know if you still dig The Monkees but there's some fans of theirs here too, myself included.

Yeah, well you'll be older too.

Indeed. And hopefully with grandchildren on my knee, though there's absolutely no sign of that yet. <sigh>

@InMyLife - yes, I still appreciate The Monkees.

I bought the Rubber Soul CD in the late 1980s and quickly bought some more. My brother played "Norwegian Wood" on the guitar and I wanted to hear the song.

I was born in '63 with 3 teenage sisters blasting their Beatles music as I was growing up.

I believe my first LP was the 1973 Red 1962-1966 album.  Too far back to be remember.  :o

I actually decided to play a Beatles "record" last night and had to laugh at the ticks, scratches & pops, but it definitely had a fun feeling of nostalgia.

I much prefer my CD/iTunes quality sound but wonder if there is a software program that would add fake ticks & pops at the beginning/end of a song.

***Not saying that's the best way to listen to The Beatles!

I've always known about The Beatles from school. We often played Beatles songs in music class (usually Let It Be or Yesterday...thank you, Paul!) and a group of girls dressed up as The Beatles during their Sgt. Pepper period and sang Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds during a presentation about finding the skeleton of Lucy. But I first discovered them when I was about 12 years old sitting in my room and suddenly decided to listen to Please Please Me. It blew my mind and I just fell in love. I've been crazy about them ever since and it's still my favourite Beatles album.  :)

When did you first hear of The Beatles? Was it through their films or maybe a track you heard on the radio? What makes their music so special to you? Can you remember what it was that suddenly made you think "wow"?
I remember when I first saw them. I was amazed that they sounded so good and they played their own instruments. At the time other music performers were singers but did not play an instrument. Also, these guys had personality! They looked like and acted like the guy who lived next door.

It's a good thing they didn't act like the guys next door to me when I was a kid. They used to throw worms at me. LOL
