English Accents
« on: October 08, 2004, 11:12:16 AM »

Yes, I know I know, this question is able Meanie again ::)

But, when I listen to Pink Floyd, I hear their English accents. Their accents sound like Meanie's.

The meanies sound like Pink Floyd? Hmm...I don't know about that one. But yeah, Floyd is one group where you can hear their accents when they sing. Usually you can't in English bands.  The Cheif Blue Meanie sounds like he's on helium.

Sort of like the schoolmaster in The Trail on the wall.  But other than that I dont see the similarities in the voice.

CBM isn't always hight-pitched. Check out his deep voices at times in the movie. That is freaky, one thing about him that creeps me out is his voice when he says: "My dear friend, let us not forget........"

His voice is deep and scary.

Your attraction is rather deep and scary, dear.  :)

English accents (and Welsh, Ozzie, Irish and Scots) are the f***ing bomb!  I only wish I could do them.  Ever since 1964 when the Beatles brought those exotic sounds to America most Beatle fans I know, including myself, absolutely love and respond greatly to any UK accent.

Anglophiles now, thanks to the Fab Four.

Can you do an accent?

I can barely do a vaguely passable Brit accnet of a sort.  Yet when I hear them it makes me want to talk that way.  I don't know what it is, I'm reasonably sure the Brits aren't particularly taken with American drawls.

Well, its like any Country, we have different accents.
For Example, if you live in good old Liverpool you would be classed as a Scouse.
Certain Areas of London.... you know..the horrible bad D-ick Van Dyke impression of a cockney :)
I live in the north east and have a maccam* accent :) I cant really describe it..but its more heavy sounding..more rough* if you like when compared with the typical Agatha Christie English accent*

Well to me all Brits sound the same. Thant people from London sound the same was people from  Liverpool.

I do enjoy listening to Pink Floyd's acccents. I'm just referencing that at times the accent on Pink Floyd sounds the same as when CBM talks.

Especially Worm Your Honor ;D

I guess it just that accent that all English have.

Ive thought of an example on the anthology, which emphasises the difference in accent.
When Paul is talking about LSD..'Devil Drugs' :) ..and Day Tripper Video is about to kick in... Listen to him say 'Back home again' .. the Pronunciation of back* thats a typical Liverpudlian :)

I wouldn't say that any of The Beatles were prime examples of the scouse accent. Especially not Macca. You need subtitles to understand a real scouse accent.

I have a very middle of the road English accent. Apparently.

Well, there certainly ARE many obvious Brit accents as there are different regional AMerican accents.  From the veddy proper BBC over to the Scouse or what have you (not up on the actual names) there are very distinct differences betwen the subsets.

I read that Mccartney had took elocution lessons when he was younger.. His Mother not wanting him to have the Scouse Accent (Although his mother died).

I know Mccartney isnt that good of an example, but I thought I would use one of the people that this forum is based on :)
