Don't you think McCartney 2 defined the 80's?
« on: April 15, 2004, 01:15:18 PM »

I think McCartney 2 released in 80 defined the decade of the 80's all in one album because of Paul's heavy use of synthesizers on most of the tracks like Coming Up(album version), Temporary Secretary & Waterfalls along with the instrumentals like Frozen Jap which is why I think McCartney 2 is the defining 80's album from a former Beatle & 60's rock legend which defined the decade of the 80's before it halfway began.

To be honest, it's quite a good album, but I don't think it defined the Eighties.

McCartney II is a poor piece of work from Macca, in my opinion. It can hardly have "defined" the 80s, as the 80s weren't that bad!

Like Macca I, if it had been released by anyone other than Paul McCartney, it would have been laughed into oblivion.

I don't think I said McCartney 2 was creatively, musically & artistically a masterpiece by Paul even though it this " one album " defined the 80's.

McCartney 2 defined what was bad about the 80's. I'm a Macca fanboy, but that album is terrible. I can hardly listen to it at all.

Another crack at "Back to the Egg". You all hate me!

You know as well as I do that the 80's did not belong to Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ted Nugent, Aerosmith, Kiss & Van Halen even though it did belong to a Flock Of Seagulls, Madonna, Prince U2 & Bon Jovi. I don't think I have asked any ridiculous questions unless maybe somebody is too damn stupid to answer them, which is NOT my problem pc31.  I think McCartney 2 defined the best & worst of the decade of the 80's all in one album proving Paul was ahead of the game as an artist atthe time.

I'll listen when you want to argue that McCartney II defined the worst of the 80's. But no way has it got anything to do with the best.

Since I don't know any of you personally, it's great to talk to fellow Beatles fans, I'm not going to be trapped by morons as in my previous post, I think McCartney 2 defined the best & worst of the 80's, if you think Skynyrd is an 80's band you are mentally insane & musically uneducated.

McCARTNEY II was a departure for Paul, and I give him some credit for trying to do something different. At the time, I thought "what the hell is THIS??" -- but the more i listened to it in 1980, the more it grew on me and became a soundtrack for what I was doing at the time (I was graduating HS). I like it.

Heh, I honestly don't like them either.........the dance version of "No More Lonely Nights" was great along with the live version of "Coming Up"........everything else was really lame.

Tug of War wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either..........that and Flowers in the Dirt were quite listenable, but none of the material really was memorable....not bad releases, but not good ones either.

TUG OF WAR went down as one of Paul's greatest albums. At the time it was hailed as the best album since BAND ON THE RUN.  And EBONY AND IVORY was a #1 hit.

"The Pound Is Sinking" rocks. Tug Of War (the album) was good! Everything on that album was decent (well "Dress Me Up As A Robber" was shaky). I highly recommend.
