All Quiet On The western Front.

Wow! Has to be the best war film I've ever seen, gruesome and horrific. Brings home the true meaningless horror of war.

Makes me very sad for Ukraine.

The new one Baz.

I liked the 1930 one but not keen on the 1979 one.

Like to see that one. I’ve seen the previous two versions. Agree the 1979 film was a bit meh.  Had John Boy from the Waltons I recall. And Ernest Borgnine overacting again.

Spent the weekend with a lady friend and she wanted to see 'Ticket to Paradise' with George Clooney and Julia Roberts.  It was pretty boring even for a RomCom.  She didnt even like it.  Dont waste your money.

My girls and I watched Fall last weekend. I'd read that the actual structure the actors climbed was only about 40 feet tall, but the CGI effects made it look 2,000 feet tall. We all had our hands over our faces, watching through our fingers. I still got vertigo. It was a pretty good movie, though. Not fantastic, but not a waste of time.

Then my older daughter and I watched another of our "stupid" shark movies. Santa Jaws!  icon_cool

All Quiet On The western Front.

I've been trying to watch this. It's tough; all I can think of is my son. And all those mothers whose sons didn't make it home.  :'(

I'll stick with it.

It's a difficult watch K. Beautifully shot though.

I saw the trailer to this at the movies a few weeks ago. I couldn’t watch it. My fear of heights wouldn’t let me.

That's impressive, nimrod. No wonder you have such a great view!

I don't care for heights OR elevators. I visited the St. Louis Arch once and kept my feet firmly on the ground. No elevator to the top for me. Luckily, my friend was of the same mind.  ;D

My friends in college used to ask me, "What are you going to do if you graduate and get a job in a big-city high-rise?" I told them I'd deal with that when and if it happened. And my first job was in Washington, DC, on the second floor, and I still had to take an elevator! (The building was very close to the Capitol, and for security reasons access to the upper floors was blocked from the first floor.) It was delightfully ironic, although my first reaction was "Oh, you are freakin' kidding me!"  ha2ha

Lili

This isn't the last movie I saw, rather it's the first movie I remember seeing...

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJ5cPp7uJls" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJ5cPp7uJls</a>

I was three years old and was fascinated by the puppets and Lili Daurier (Leslie Caron) talking to and singing with them...

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCoqaaVD7-A" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCoqaaVD7-A</a>

It's a story about a touchingly naïve French girl whose emotional relationship with a carnival puppeteer is conducted through the medium of four puppets.  That concept was beyond my comprehension at the time, but as I grew older I came to understand what it meant.

I recently learned that the movie was based on a 1950 short story entitled "The Man Who Hated People," by Paul Gallico.  After the film was released, the author re-wrote his short story as a novella entitled Love of Seven Dolls...

I purchased the book, in its first edition and signed by the author, and plan to read it this holiday weekend.

Carrying on my Western theme.

Hostiles.
Excellent, starring Christian Bale. 8/10

The Assassination Of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford.

THE best western I've seen, Casey Affleck, Brad Pitt   10/10 Can't praise this enough.

Also;

Smile, stupid 3/10

Don't Worry Darling, Promising but became daft eventually. Harry Styles is a lame actor but Florence Pugh is great  (loved the 50s cars though)  5.5/10

My daughters and I just watched that the other night. What a disappointment! We'd had high hopes for it.

It wasn't awful. It's just that, based on what we'd read online, we were expecting it to be terrifying, and it wasn't, although it was pretty creepy.
