My younger daughter and I are starting the family's annual round of Christmas movies. Tonight will be Bass/Rankin's "Rudolph" and "A Christmas Story," two favorites. We'll be saving the rest ("Elf," "Christmas With the Kranks," "The Chrismas List," and "Davey and Goliath's Snowboard Christmas" [and old family jokey favorite that we love to poke fun at]) for when my older daughter arrives. And "It's a Wonderful Life" will get squeezed in at some point, of course.  ;)

Haven’t done Christmas movies as much over the last couple of years. But going to revisit some this year. Elf is a fav.

Kathy, did you see last year’s sequel, A Christmas Story Christmas? I just caught it the other night on Hulu. Peter Billingsley returned as grown up Ralph, family man and would-be sci-fi author. Randy, Schwartz, Flick, Scutt and Grover are all there and played by the original actors. I didn’t enjoy it as much its predecessor, but it has some very poignant moments. I was expecting it to take place earlier than 1973 but it’s feasible. lol You can also see Peter Billingsley when you watch Elf.  :)

No, I hadn't heard of that one, Kelley; thanks for the heads-up! I no longer have Hulu—I unsubscribed as part of my financial paring back during this past year. I'll have to see if I can stream it somewhere else.

I think my kids and I watched Elf about half a dozen times before we noticed Peter Billingsley!  :)

I love Elf. I have a friend who detests it, and I can't understand why. I think it's such a sweet movie.

It’s available a number of places. I hope you can see it.

Elf is a favorite here, too. What’s really bad is I came across this information just tonight and thought it was new to me. But now I think I did know but forgot. Oh, good grief!

It’s been quite a while since I’ve watched this film. After seeing your clip I remembered how truly magical it is. And then I found this trailer and discovered that it was also “groovey”. Who knew? I didn’t even know that word was around in 1947!

The Gunfighter   1950

<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLaTg3Nrx2w" target="_blank" class="aeva_link bbc_link new_win">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLaTg3Nrx2w</a>

Gregory Peck, Millard Mitchell and Helen Westcott

It's been said that High Noon ((1952) was the first of the modern genre of Westerns.  I think The Gunfighter deserves this distinction.

You can watch the full movie here...

Brilliant movie Baz  icon_good One of my favourites.

I read that John Wayne was offered that role but turned it down for some reason. But Peck was excellent as the broody gunfighter.

I just watched Peck in Mackenna's Gold

Another great one.

I can't see anyone else but Gregory Peck as The Gunfighter, Kev.  He was perfect for that role.

Leave The World Behind

2023

Kinda strange movie in which unexplained things happen but there is a reason at the end.

I enjoyed it, well acted and directed.

Isn't that a great movie, Kev?  Look at that cast...

I saw this movie when I was a kid and I fell in love with Carroll Baker...

...but I was too young for her.   :(    ;D

I was pretty good at riding horses at the time and so I was amused at the scene where Gregory Peck picked out that Appaloosa (Old Thunder) to ride...

And then there was the music...

With that opening titles score, you knew the movie was gonna be great!

Jean Simmons was in The Big Country too...

A couple of years before that, she was in Guys And Dolls...

She was a knockout when, as Sister Sarah Brown, Sky Masterson (Marlon Brando) took her out to dinner in Havana...

That first picture was Chuck Connors, didn't he star in a tv series called The Lawman ?

That speech Burl Ives gave at the party was an oscar winning performance
