Cry For A Shadow

Anybody likes Cry For A Shadow? Me, it's one of the best Beatles songs I've heard and tied with the Beach Boy's Pet Sounds for best instrumental.

Its an awesome song. I always thought Laurence Juber took the first chords and slowed them down for the intro to "To You" on Back to the Egg. Great rocking song though--they should have thrown that into their live mix.

I just played "..Shadow" and "Pet Sounds" back to back and I noticed that the guitar parts almost sound THE SAME!!   :o

No they dont. Cry For A Shadow is a more screeching, crying sound. And it's faster. I can see what you mean, but I don't find them so similar.

I'ts really Harrison's achievement. I love the McCartney 'screeches' in the background. Does anyone else think that George's electric guitar intro to Free As A Bird sounds like it's inspired by Cry For A Shadow?

There's a stretch. Is it because 'Free As A Bird' is such an up-tempo rocker?

juniorsfarm, it's just because the first few guitar moments of each sound vaguely similar to me. Also because when Free As A Bird was released, we were promised a few 'surprises'. I wondered if a harking back to the early apparently Lennon-Harrison composition was a tribute to John by George, and one of the 'surprises' promised in the sleeve notes at the time.
