(12/1/01, 7 a.m. ET) -- As the news of George Harrison's death on Thursday (November 29) traveled through the music world, friends and fellow musicians of the former Beatle continued to express their loss. The group Badfinger, which owed some of its success to Harrison and the rest of the Beatles, posted a heartfelt message on its website, writing simply: "Words cannot express our feelings...We will never forget you or the impact you made on our lives."
After signing to the Beatles' Apple Records label in 1968, Badfinger came to be friends with all of the members of the Beatles. In 1970, Harrison asked if they would play on his All Things Must Passalbum. Badfinger's Joey Molland told LAUNCH how they came to be a part of the classic album. "We started going to Apple quite a lot, and then we met George and then George wanted us to play on the All Things Must Pass album for him. He needed some guitar players so he asked us. We started to just do a lot of sessions for him."
The following year, Harrison returned the favor and produced several tracks on Badfinger's Straight Up album. Harrison played guitar on the "Day After Day" track, which went on to become one of the group's biggest hits. "After we'd done his stuff, he decided to try his hand at producing the band, he produced the Straight Up album, or like five or six tracks off it, actually. And he did the 'Day After Day' song, that's right--that was one of the ones he did," he said.
Molland told LAUNCH what it was like taking direction from Harrison. "It was easy, very easy," he said. "George was just such a nice guy, a regular kind of person, really. He doesn't come off, like, 'I'm a Beatle.'"
