"Chocolate Factory" remake
« on: May 16, 2005, 03:33:30 PM »

I was a bit apprehensive when I heard there was going to be a remake, as I love the original to pieces, but I just saw an advert for it on TV and dare I say it, bt I think it might be even better.
It looks like they are going to stay truer to the book (i.e. "Charlie..." instead of "Willy Wonka.." also, they have the boiled pink sweet boat and the nut room, like in the original. I wonder what the Oompa-Loompas will look like.

What do you guys think?

I'm really against it! :)
I love the original..it's the small things on the first one..how it's strangely based around a German Village..yet everyone living there is American. The wierd and often dark material:
- The man selling cutlery (I think) talking to Charlie at night outside the Chocolate factory.
- The 'bad trip' Boat Ride..much like Heart Of Darkness..with a LSD tinge..

You can't make it any better.
The original cast was so strong..Gene Wilder, Roy Kinnear, Jack Albertson etc

I think the remake is just a cash-in.
Plus, Johhny Depp truly annoys me.

Oh the Oompa-Loompas are poorly done..and some of the songs seem to have that cliche 60's glaze that I can only get away with in Austin Powers.

You're right about the cast, it's just... meh, I'm a stickler for details and I want the book to be perfect, word for word. i felt the same way about the changes made to James and the Giant Peach when it was made into a movie.

Johnny Depp seems rather dark for a Willy Wonka character.

Dark! Ha, to say the least. And what about Tim Burton? This is going to be a very disturbed version of Willy Wonka...Charlie. Whatever. I'm sure it'll be interesting though. Sometimes Burton hits and sometimes he goes over the top with the depressing, wierd images. I've never read the book, so I don't know what they've changed on the original movie. All I know is that it's a great movie. The comment about the German village was funny. I thought one of the kids was English or something? I don't know, its been a while since I've seen it.

I love Tim Burton, so I'll definitely see this (although I'm more intrigued by the animation project that's also due out this year)...........Burton's only weak films were remakes, though unfortunately (Planet of the Apes and Mars Attacks!, which was based off of a card series)..........but the trailer for this one was pretty good....

I think this movie is going to suck.  Johhny Depp looks kinda of gay in the movie.  It looks more like a scary movie than a childrens movie.  The new one just doesn't look right, it has kind of a dark look to it.  I for one will never watch it.

Is there a place on the web where I can view the trailer?

I'm not saying that their is a problem with Johhny Depp looking gay in the movie.  I'm just saying that none of the movie looks right, it just doesn't look like a childrens movie.

The scene with the four band members playing is definitely a reference to the Beatles.  It has Sgt. Pepper vibe to it, and one of the guitar players is playing left-handed :)

Those people who have never seen the original version will like new one I think.
It will be in 3D format also, I think it'll be very interesting.

Dark? Not a childrens movie??  HELLO!!!!!!!!!!

Kids getting sucked up into tubes, and sucked down pipes and blowing up after chewing gum... I Don't think its NOT3 suppose to be dark! lol The original was  dark too, Gene Wilder made it pretty creepy, Hopefully Johnny Depp will too. I cannot WAIT to see the movie. I think it'll be awesome

Oh, btw, this isn't really a remake.............I just remembered that the script writer actually never saw the Gene Wilder film until after he wrote this new one...........this is based on the book, hence why it's called 'Charlie And The Chocolate Factory'......
