I am the Walrus - just wow
« on: February 24, 2020, 10:41:09 PM »

so right now I am going through a phase where I am the Walrus is elevated on my ever changing favorites list.

Drummers and Beatle song creation experts out there - when the drums first kick in on the song, is that Ringo being Ringo with how/beat he chooses or does John or someone else suggest how he jumps in and when?  I love how it kicks in, the impact of it and beat/tempo of it all at that point in time.

If you had to try to pinpoint a moment/song when they looked upon the world from above and said to themselves or anyone else that would listen - "we are IT", this song might be that moment for me, when I believe they felt that, more than other times.

I think thats Ringo being Ringo as it seems like a natural place to drop in.  Of course we have no way of knowing though.

Anyways, its a great song and one of my favorites by them.

Wow, at the 1:34 mark Ringo does a double beat on the bass drum that i've never heard before.  Pretty cool.

I too love I Am The Walrus.

I feel the same way about Baby You're A Rich Man for some reason.  It's just so different.  partypeople

Here's a pale imitation cover of the song by the band Octopus.  Although it easily lacks what the original offers, for being done live in a club during 1971, I wouldnt have been disappointed if I was in the crowd at said show.

Thing about walrus is it’s cool because it has all the weird sound and instruments and overdubs but when you hear the anthology version where that’s all stripped away it’s still a great heavy tune.

I need to do that, probably has been many years since I have heard that version, thanks.

Yes, MM! George’s guitar is sweet! In the released version it’s like he’s not even involved.

Thanks for starting this thread, blmeanie.  What an amazing song!  The covers of it by the Analogues and Octopus are great, too.  How did John Lennon write something like this?  Such a brilliant piece!  A masterwork.  I feel so privileged to listen to it.  To exist in the right time in history.  And I like the strings in it.  They add something morose and beautiful to it.  WOW!!!

Love hearing the isolated Beatles coming out of either my left or right speaker.

Fascinating, exilarating & a new 'wow'.
