^^Haha the music video is SO cheesey XD
It is very much of it's time. Back To The Egg was an attempt by Paul to embrace punk and new wave, and the video shows it with it's hand-held anti-production values, the attempt to capture some kind of frentic energy, the shades and the jumping about. Paul even does a Johny Rotten wide-eyed stare at the camera. And the album is full of very short tracks, punks reaction to prog rock epics. Though Denny should have followed Paul's example and lost the mullet.
Good on him for trying. Other bands tried to ignore the trend and most sunk without a trace. At least Paul gives things a go, but unfortunately at 37 he's just way too old. (though punk heroes The Stranglers managed to convince people they were much younger than they were). This is the album that made me stop buying Paul McCArtney products. The music (too me) sounds plodding, though Spin It On isn't
too bad. New Wave is a kids thing. But again, hats off to the man for at least trying. At least he wasn't turning out overly slick, insipid coffee table music like Lennon's Double Fantasy (which also made me decide to never buy another Lennon product again.)
