^ LOL, that's just perfect.

Here's an article for us to enjoy:

"In praise of... Paul McCartney"

Quote
At 16 he wrote of being an elderly 64, but at 67 Paul McCartney is still enjoying the spotlight – as well as a command of his vocal cords which makes for a remarkable contrast with croaking contemporaries such as Bob Dylan. Just as Hamburg starts belatedly taking pride in its role in Beatles history, we report today on Big Mac's return to the city to kick off his European tour. For decades Sir Paul languished in the shadow of the posthumously deified John Lennon. The fact that he obviously minded so much didn't much help – and nor, admittedly, did some of his solo records. He deserves, however, to be celebrated as the most fabulous songwriter in the Fab Four. An effortlessly fluent lyricist ("Of every head he's had the pleasure to know") and on occasion a poet (Eleanor Rigby), his greatest gifts are in the harmonic department. Any musician delving into the McCartney back catalogue – from the seemingly straightforward All My Loving to the instantly distinctive I Will – finds quirky key shifts and playful surprise swaps between major and minor. His classical counterpart would be Schubert, with whom he shares the ability to weave complex melodies which nonetheless feel so natural that they sound discovered as opposed to invented. Indeed, the ballad Yesterday – still the world's most-covered track – entered the McCartney brain in such perfect form that for a time he believed he must have heard it somewhere before. We still need him, even if there's no need to feed him, now he's beyond 64.

^ Thank you, girl. It's always nice to hear of people who DO appreciate Paul as a highly accomplished musician. He's a monster talent and not just a pretty face!

^^You've been rather absent from this thread Emmi!

You know you're a Paul fan when whenever you hear someone say, "This is it", you automatically think of "Spin It On"

It is very much of it's time. Back To The Egg was an attempt by Paul to embrace punk and new wave, and the video shows it with it's hand-held anti-production values, the attempt to capture some kind of frentic energy, the shades and the jumping about. Paul even does a Johny Rotten wide-eyed stare at the camera. And the album is full of very short tracks, punks reaction to prog rock epics. Though Denny should have followed Paul's example and lost the mullet.

Good on him for trying. Other bands tried to ignore the trend and most sunk without a trace. At least Paul gives things a go, but unfortunately at 37 he's just way too old. (though punk heroes The Stranglers managed to convince people they were much younger than they were). This is the album that made me stop buying Paul McCArtney products. The music (too me) sounds plodding, though Spin It On isn't too bad. New Wave is a kids thing. But again, hats off to the man for at least trying. At least he wasn't turning out overly slick, insipid coffee table music like Lennon's Double Fantasy (which also made me decide to never buy another Lennon product again.)

Paul's interest in punk may have had to do with daughter Heather, who at the time was very into the punk scene. I think she even dated Billy Idol a few years later.

Okay guys, sorry to barge in but I have a question that only Paul fans can answer, so I figured this was the best thread to ask in!  :D
I haven't actually listened to any Wings properly, and I'm considering buying an album.  Is there any particular one I should choose as a first Wings album?  I don't care how far along their career it is, I'd rather hear what the fans consider the best, rather than what came first.  I'm considering Red Rose Speedway or Band On The Run.  Am I on the right lines, Paulie fans?  :P

^^I'd say Band On The Run for sure. And if you're going for Paul solo, then RAM.

Jai Guru Deva, for a first Wings album, I'd also recommend Band On the Run. Personally, however, I have a soft spot for Wild Life, but many others don't seem to like it. I like its "messy" dreaminess.

Yup, true. My first whiff of Paul's Hollywood Bowl rumor was originally sourced from Perez Hilton...ahhhhhhhhh. LOL.

You know you're a Paul fan if you're unwilling to discuss Paul with strangers because you KNOW you tend to get "verbal diarrhea" about him. :-[

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind.  I did read that Wild Life wasn't massively praised by the media, but I won't let that put me off.  ;)

Cheers to being open-minded. ;)

I love Paul for this song:

The Fireman - Official Video Dance 'Til We're High

Electric Arguments is sooo good...I think it's my favorite Paul solo album, too bad more people don't know about the Fireman. And Dance 'Til We're High is a great song!!

I'm definitely gonna check out some Paulie.  And today I can actually contribute to this thread...
You know you're a Paul fan when you drive past a place called "Mac's Truck Sale" and you automatically misread it for "Macca's Truck Sale" and laugh at the image of Paul in farmers clothes sitting in a tractor with a silly grin on his face.   ha2ha
