SSG-MMT/Yellow Submarine Results
« on: September 30, 2007, 11:26:52 AM »

The results are in, and it was a close run thing for first place.

1. I Am The Walrus   43
2. Strawberry Fields Forever   40
3. Fool On The Hill   14

The top two ran away with it, but Fool On The Hill just pipped Penny Lane by one point.

The rest of the voting went like this:

4. Penny Lane   13
5. Hey Bulldog   11
6. Hello Goodbye   9
=6. Its All Too Much   9
8. Magical Mystery Tour   4
9. Baby You're A Rich Man   1
=9. All You Need Is Love   1

The worst song, in quite an even vote was Only A Northern Song, with 5 votes.

Trivia Corner.

George's songs received nearly half the vote in the 'worst' category.

5 songs received no votes at all in the 'best of' category; Flying, Blue Jay Way, Your Mother Should Know, Only A Northern Song, and All Together Now. The first time this has happened.

John has sung the winning song in every round so far except the first.

I Am The Walrus is now the top ranked song in the competition.

I don't think I Am The Walrus was an A-side (B-side of Hello Goodbye).

As far as I'm aware (off the top of me 'ead!) the only Beatles double A-sides were:

We Can Work it Out/Day Tripper
Eleanor Rigby/Yellow Submarine
Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields Forever
Something/Come Together

Great, love the trivia bits you put in there BlueMeanie. I kind of expected the top 2 to go as they did, except I thought SFF would get the 1 spot. A little disappointed that Penny Lane just fell short of the top 3, as it was A side to SFF. Still, Fool On The Hill is worthy. A fine round it was and looking forward now to the White album!

Thanks Pasta. I was also disappointed that Penny Lane didn't make it. But that's the way of the vote.

Thank you. Looking forward to seeing what happens with The White Album. We usually get a lot of votes on a Sunday, but I'm expecting people to take their time with this one.

I don't think anyone voted it in 1st place. Too many thirds. One more point to make it equal with The Fool On The Hill, and it would have come third.

My theory is it was because the competition was so keen. I really like Your Mother Should Know and Only A Northern Song, but I don't like them as much as some of these other amazing compositions.

I think next round, you should split up the 2 albums, so we can vote for more of our favorites! And I don't care that YS has only 4 songs-- so what?  ;D

IN FACT (now I'm getting excited) we should vote on each SIDE of an album separately! Then we would REALLY have a song competition! *quickly patents this amazingly brilliant idea*

Well, as people said before, there's a limit to how many times you can hear a no.1 hit... Its the same with Yesterday I believe (even though i could listen to it forever.)

I'd say the results are as I expected them

Heh! We'll see. I'll see how this one goes, and if this forum displays absolutely appalling average taste, I just might have to!  :o ;D
