Across the Universe-Grammys
« on: February 14, 2005, 06:44:36 AM »

If anyone like me had the stupid idea to watch the Grammys last night, you might have stumbled across the "tribute" in which many modern pop stars performed "Across the Universe". Did anyone see it or have opinons on it?

It sucked. I thought, how could they totally ruin such a great song??? But they did. Horrible. 'Something's gonna change our world??" I knew they'd go and change the lyrics. This just makes me appreciate Lennon's voice even more. He sang it with much more emotion than these supposedly talented people.

Agreed it was quite horid, I thought the line up was bad and how the keep stressing the chorus was so clique-ish.

It wasn't a good performance but they did it for a good cause at least. Alicia Keys did a pretty good job singing her part.

^ She was off the beat the whole time

The only one who was consistantly good was Steven Tyler on the maracas... the rest sucked... Norah Jones was ok, though...

Yeah, that girl's got pipes. Too bad all of her music kinda sounds the same. I liked Fallin' and How Come You Don't Call Me, though.

Alicia Keys sounded like she was singing the wrong song. Bono and Billie Joe stayed true to the song. I think that's important.

Brian Wilson sang his part well. It's a thrill for me too see Brian singing a Beatles song. I mean it's Brian freaking Wilson!

Damn, I would've loved to see that...

Anyone ever heard Fiona Apple's cover of Across The Universe? It's really amazing...

you didn't miss anything. It sounded like bad Karoke.
Learn the words Stevie. Bono, stop trying so hard to be Bono. Wake up Norah, Hello Brian do you have your crayons today ?, Steve the Mexican Bandit. Tim McGraw ? Alica Keys ? what a duo. Weiland sounded as good as Bowie would. What's with the hair dude ? AND VELVET REVOLVER as the backing band ?
Who put this together and who gave you the right to change the verse ?
IT SUCKED ! and we're supposed to want to buy this crap ? Historical they wanted us to believe. Those who don't remember history are doomed to repeat it. Let's hope that never gets repeated.

I knew the Beatles classic Across The Universe for the tsunami victims with Bono, Tim McGraw, Stevie Wonder & Velvet Relover would be cheap, cheesy & crappy without even watching the Grammys.

I hate Fiona Apple's version. She sounds like she's half asleep.

Ah, why can't they just let Beatles songs be and make their own music?
