^^^^^^

Thanks, Nim! I'll check Amazon Prime first.  :)

I never read the book, but just watched the movie.  It was excellent!  Great acting and cinematography.

The YouTube video is in HD, Kathleen.  Watch it full screen.

That's because they set up the movie cameras upside down during shooting of the film.   ;D

You'll enjoy it, Kathleen.  But I'm not sure whether it's better to read the book first.  In the movie, there was good character development of only the main roles.  Cinematography was this movie's forté.

I haven’t watched the film for years. I watched it as a young adult and have to admit it didn’t thrill me. But I didn’t appreciate that type of film at the time. It’s certainly a classic but you have to be prepared for the languid pace. Much more a European style film. It is beautifully shot as HG says.

I heard they’re doing a Netflix series of it as well.

So hanging rock is really just sitting on the ground? That changes the film quite a bit. The characters realise that they were the ones hanging all along.  glassesslip

Oh and Kathleen, the Amazon Prime movie is the remake, not this 1975 film.

Moog, I've watched the Netflix series and it's nowhere near as good as the film, you're right it's a slow paced film, the beauty is in the dialogue and the cinematography

Kathy, I'd watch the film before the book if I were you as whenever I've read the book and then watched the film, the film always lets me down compared to the book if you see what I mean

Baz, I think they filmed it through an upside down telescope so it appears the right way up

I've been reading the books by PD James in particular the Adam Dalgleish stories, they made a TV series from most of these books, they are a great Read if you liked murder mysteries.

Nimrod, are you the one who likes scary books? If so, you should check on Jeremy Bates books on Amazon (or wherever). He writes creepy thrillers but no gory stuff. They're easy to read, too -- no having to go back and figure out the plot or which characters are which.

Ah, I knew it! I was wondering whether I'd mixed you two up in regard to reading preferences.

Well, Moog, check out Jeremy Bates's books if you're so inclined.  :)

Just finished Doctor Sleep. I was skeptical at first -- Stephen King didn't seem to leave The Shining open to any sort of sequel -- but I soon found myself absorbed and couldn't put it down. I doubt I'll see the movie, though; according to IMDB it's pretty violent, and I hate to see children get hurt. It's too upsetting.

Stephen King is a wonderful author and I wish he'd write something I could handle again. ;D Oddly enough, I did read Carrie and Salem's Lot when I was younger and I guess it didn't traumatize me too much! I also read a book at that time called Audrey Rose, by Frank De Felitta. Until just now, when I looked it up, I thought that was also a King novel.
