funny or cool ad-libs
« on: February 19, 2024, 11:40:29 AM »

I was in the car listening to one of my Beatle playlists and over a few songs it occurred to me that there were ad-lib'd parts of songs that had become favorite parts of songs.

In a post the other day someone rediscovered an old post on Ticket to Ride and mentioned the "awwwww" parts at 1:46 and 2:36

I would venture to guess those "awwwww"s came to be out of the song evolving , probably not in the first few attempts

Here are a couple more I noticed between watching Get Back and listening in the car

- Ticket to ride "Awwwww"s at 1:46 and 2:36
- Don't let me down - "hey" at 2:43
- All you need is love - fading ending with "she loves you yeah yeah yeah" - planned or just happened?
- I've Got a Feeling- 2:44 Paul's "wooooooo" , from Get Back you can see he is excited about the police showing up on the roof
- Get Back - John's "I'd like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves and I hope we passed the audition"

What do you think -fav parts of these songs ?

Other ad-libs that you know of in the recordings?

I happen to enjoy the Beatles' ad libs, including the ones you mentioned, blmeanie.

I found this rather long video about who sings the "She Loves You" part at the end of All You Need Is Love. I've always thought it was Paul—to me, it sounds so much like him—but apparently it was both John and Paul (?). Fortunately, the owner of this YouTube video flagged the time stamp at which this particular topic is discussed: 6:53.

Some of my favorite ad libs are in Yellow Submarine ("Full speed ahead, Mr. Boatswain," etc.), although from what I've read it seems these were actually planned and not ad libs per se. So perhaps that doesn't count.

Here's the All You Need Is Love analysis video:

Here's my first post in this Forum:  Re: Favorite Background Vocals

I posted that on 8 April 2006.  How quickly time has passed!  raxo immediately followed with a warm welcome to the forums.

Of course Paperback Writer has been a favorite of mine since I first heard it on a Capitol 45 record when I worked as a waiter in a sleep-away camp in the summer of 1966.  But I couldn't make out what John and George were singing in the background.  It wasn't until I got a decent stereo system and was able to separate channels that I heard them singing "Frère Jacques."

Today we have advanced methods of isolating audio tracks.  It's always fun to listen to The Beatles' isolated vocal tracks.  Have a listen to these...
