The Prisoner was very popular here too on WNET Channel 13, a PBS station.  I liked Patrick McGoohan in The Prisoner and in Secret Agent, Kev.  John Drake never carried a gun...

They aired The Saint at midnight on Sunday.  I would always be bleary-eyed Monday mornings in school.

We didn't get that here, Kev.  I'll give it a watch.  The British shows were my favorites in the 60s.

I think you might like it if you give it a go... all Frank ever seem to do was make cups of tea... he was unmarried and never had any women in the series although a couple of women showed an interest in him in one or two episodes ...he's a bit scruffy but it turns out he's a likable chap and he charges 6 Guineas a day plus expenses lol

The early episodes were in black and white and then it changed to colour I think in season 6

Kev, we did get The Prisoner on PBS here in the United States.  We didn't get Public Eye however.

I enjoyed Patrick McGoohan in both Secret Agent (Danger Man for you) and The Prisoner back in the 60s.

Yes, Kev.  We got that as a summer replacement in 1968.  I liked it a lot and was sorry when they stopped airing the series when the fall TV season began in September.

I loved The Avengers as a kid Baz, then they made The New Avengers later, still with John Steed (Great Bass line)

Mrs. Peel was my favorite of John Steed's partners.  This scene was sad but tempered with a bit of levity...

This was the only time in the series that Steed called her "Emma."

Going back to the origin of this thread, it's odd that in 2008, people on the forum were declaring TV dead when it was in what was supposed to be a golden age. The Sopranos, the Wire, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Deadwood etc had made TV an important "artistic" medium.

Nah!  Gabby Hayes was older, missing most of his teeth and had a TV show of his own...

You're thinking of Frank McGrath who played Charlie Wooster, the cook...

Gabby Hayes retired after The Gabby Hayes Show finished airing in the mid-1950s...

I loved that show!

They spoofed Gabby Hayes in Blazing Saddles...
