So we all seem to have seen this somewhere but we can't remember where.
As usual, I go with Lewisohn until someone can prove him wrong.

I was (still am) with Mark on this one (I've already said it) ... but Mark made some already proven mistakes ... remember that too ... it seems that he can't forget it 'cos he's working on his define-tely one(s) ... the issue? You've got to wait some years ...

Does anybody knows a site saying which instrument(s) played each one of them on their songs ... but acording to what Mark said in his Bibles?

If he's so good why not a site believing in him ... I don't think I'm asking for too much ... I would like to find that site (There should be tons of them, uh? ... after all, he's the one who knows more about their recording career -tho I'm not one of the ones who think so- but each site I visit says something that does not agree ...  ::) ... how blind people can be!!! LOL! ... or maybe nobody believes in him with eyes closed precisely because of his mistakes?

This site.. http://perso.wanadoo.es/sissu/maingear.htm.. tells which instruments they play on which song. But I guess it is wrong on some songs, At least drive my car according to people on here George played Bass on that track.

Yeah. It's a nice site, but it also says George doesn't play at all on Taxman!

Correct! ... it's one site I like a lot (I've already said it too) but it's got some others mistakes too ...

Some that I've seen (without check everything that's on):
http://dmbeatles.com/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?b-cc/m-1098136827/s-15/

I do wish to find one site with this kind of info but acording to Mark's books ... I think that that guy made a good work ... perhaps he's the one who knows almost everything about their whole recording career ... but maye he's wrong about some songs like some others said in the past ... after all he corrected his first book ... but, how many mistakes remain ... let's hope that his next work's even better ... if it's possible ...

Anyway, I admit that he's the reference number one ... but not necessary the only one.  :)

Did George play the bass on this one? ??)
(we discussed when George played the bass for the first time ...
... and when they all began to exchange their roles here:
http://dmbeatles.com/forums/b-cc/m-1098136827/s-15/ )

Rock And Roll Music
(Chuck Berry)

John Lennon: Vocals, electric guitar
Paul McCartney: Acoustic guitar(?), bass guitar(?), Piano(?)
George Harrison: Acoustic guitar(?), bass guitar(?)
Ringo Starr: Drums, castanets
George Martin: Piano

Recorded October 18 1964.

Availability:
Beatles For Sale
Live At The BBC
Anthology 2

A fine version of Chuck Berry's song from 1957. The Beatles even recorded it on Chuck Berry's 38th birthday, but most likely without knowing.

i doubt that George played bass on Rock n Roll Music,
it would have been known i think & George never played bass
before, & wasen't even that confident.
I only know he played a bit of bass in later years, Golden Slumbers..
and John played bass on The Long & Winding Road.

You're wrong, George played the bass some time before ...
... confident enough? George played Paul's bass in The Cavern on April 05, 1962!!! :o

Yep, Paul on drums and Pete singing ... another pic of George from that day:

The Rock And Roll Music bass part is not a difficult one ...
... and George played the bass on several tracks later, among others:

Birthday, Back In The USSR, Honey Pie, Maxwell's Silver Hammer (?) or Carry That Weight
and probably for the first time on record on Drive My Car (1965):
(He said so in the Anthology book:
"GEORGE: I played the bassline on 'Drive My Car'. It was like the line from 'Respect' by Otis Redding. "

1966 Burns Nu-Sonic Bass

"What's known about this bass? Practically nothing. It shows up in a photo from the Paperback Writer session with George playing it. It was sometimes called a "Lady Bass" because it was a short scale model. The Nu-Sonic was cherry red. That's all I know! It wasn't used on the final recording, though.

Read this post from Don Butler of the BeatGear Cavern forums. He says, "On John's use of the Gretsch 6120, most likely the guitar was borrowed from "Sound City" for a couple days. Sound City was the Gretsch dealer in London and in fact the biggest music store in London in the early to mid/late Sixties. George got his first 6122 Country Gent and his 6119 Tenny there. they loaned The Beatles alot of equipment during those years. The Burns Bass that George used on Paperback Writer was most likely a loaner from either Sound City or Burns. Neither of those instruments were ever seen again after the Paperback Writer/Rain sessions."

In the studio with the Nu-Sonic.

The full view of the picture above.

This bass is a Baldwin, a subsidiary of Burns. The bass is the same as the one George played, except this one's made by Baldwin.
