Paul's last great hit single.
« on: September 15, 2006, 02:12:45 PM »

I consider Coming Up to be Paul's last great hit single as a solo artist after the breakup of the Beatles because the live version rocks & it's similiar to his other classic rockers Hi Hi Hi, Helen Wheels & Junior's Farm.  Ebony & Ivory, No More Lonely Nights & My Brave Face are just average singles from Macca, which aren't even in the same leagues as Another Day, Silly Love Songs & Goodnight Tonight.  CU is one of his best solo classics that's slightly forgotten these days since I hardly hear it on the radio anymore & the original track on the album McCartney II is more 80's than Human League.

Once Upon A Long Ago is my favorite solo single by Paul, and that came out well after Coming Up... I love My Brave Face... Jenny Wren was a good single too... And Hope Of Deliverence was enjoyable...

Yeah, Jenny Wren was probably his last great single in my opinion (only because 'Too Much Rain' wasnt released as a single).

Jenny Wren was #22 in the UK, so it was a hit single.

Its true that Jenny Wren didnt chart real well, but I was basing my opinion on the singles he released. If we're going with chart success, yeah, Coming Up was probably his last good one(unless that crap tune Freedom snuck in somehow).

Jenny Wren should have been a huge hit, at least in the top 10 BP, but Paul's time has come & gone sadly in this age of Kanye West.

I don't agree. If your last album reaches the top 10 in the USA and the UK (which C&CITBY did), you're not a has-been.

And remember that the guy's 64. Not many of his peers still release new records that sell.

I disagree; I think No More Lonely Nights is a great piece, leagues ahead of Another Day, which I've never thought of as anything special.

I agree 100% with that. It's too bad he didn't release Too Much Rain as a single I think it would of charted better than Jenny Wren.

The only good thing about NMLN is the guitar solo by Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, but it's pop pap at its worst from Paul.

I dont understand this post at all Frighty. What are you disagreeing with and what is the comparison between NMLN and Another Day? I mean, Another Day was released in 71'. Do you see a direct comparison between the two songs or something? If so, i'm not seeing the similarities. Just wondering.

I got it from here:

Heck, I'd say NMLN is better than all three of those songs.
