100 Greatest Albums
« on: April 22, 2006, 09:59:14 PM »

I saw this list on another site. It's the 100 greatest rock albums as voted by Irish musicians. Hmmm. It's an interesting list though. What do you all think??

Here's the link: http://www.hotpress.com/vote/top100albums/top100list.adp

In European (specially UK-ian ... tho this one is Irish) lists Radiohead is al-ways up and Stone Roses too ... that's the weakest point of that top-20 ... the rest of albums are al-ways the same ... I miss one or two Rolling Stones and Guys albums in the top-20 ...

... another thing is Joni Mitchell and Kate Bush ... and then Marvin Gaye's "What's Goin' On?" (41st) oh my god!  ::)

... and 3 albums by Radiohead in top-50 ... and Bob Dylan's "The Freewheelin'" (53rd) ... too much!

Yep, weird ranking in some cases ... but we have to admit that they've voted for the music they know and like ... that doesn't prove anything ...

I like the general list.  Especially the high ranking for "Astral Weeks."  There's alot of Rory Gallagher (more than Hendrix and Clapton combined--is there any Clapton, BTW?), but that's okay.

I don't get all the Radiohead, but like the Neil Young inclusions (although Heart of Gold isn't even in the top ten best Neil albums, IMHO) as well as The Band and Tom Waits (the Irish like to drink, perhaps?).

Too much Bjork in my opinion.  But glad Planxty and The Pogues made the cut (although I'm not sure Rum, Sodomy and the Lash is their best album).

I take it from the list that the Stones aren't that popular in Erin, but Dylan, Van and Neil Young are.

I remember being in a bar in Galway a few years back and the local band's closing number was Dylan's "I'll be your baby tonight."  Every person in that crowd was singing along and knew every word.  I doubt you could have found that level of devotion in a New York crowd, and certainly not in Nashville.

Erin go bragh!

Maybe we should make our own top 100 on the forums here and see how that turns out.

I only take all-time album lists seriously if Pet Sounds is at least in the top 10.

So this one's OK.  8)

maybe we should start a thread and everyone gives there 20 favourite albums then make a list using that. It might get confusing if you try to rank it in the way everyone orders them, so you could just list the albums in no order and each album you list is a vote for that album....just an idea.
