I have a fear of heights. It runs in the family. I'm not as bad as my mom and aunts though. If I'm protected by a railing or fence, I'm fine. Rock climbing though, no way! I went a couple of times and just started shaking. I guess it's this one then: Aeroacrophobia- Fear of open high places. I've also developed a fear of flying. I used to LOVE it but I don't know what happened. Now I can barely take it. But I'll still do it. Giving into these phobias isn't necessary.
I looked up the name for fear of heights and I cannot believe some of the phobias I found. Makes me wonder about people. I mean, really now. :
Anablephobia- Fear of looking up. (maybe they had a bad experience with birds as children?)
Anglophobia- Fear of England or English culture, etc.
Bolshephobia- Fear of Bolsheviks.
Barophobia- Fear of gravity. (go live on the moon then)
Cathisophobia- Fear of sitting. (what the hell do you do if you have this?? )
Cherophobia- Fear of gaiety. (these people must be real fun to hang with)
Didaskaleinophobia- Fear of going to school. (if only I would have known about this one in high school. would have been a better excuse than, I feel sick!)
Dutchphobia- Fear of the Dutch. (heh)
Geniophobia- Fear of chins.
Phobophobia- Fear of phobias. ??)
And finally, I think a few of us here suffer from this one:
Allodoxaphobia- Fear of opinions.
