Beyond Double Albums question
« on: January 04, 2019, 11:44:39 PM »

In the old days of vinyl albums, it wasn't unusual to occasionally see an artist issue a double album.

But I was just wondering, did any artist/s ever create a triple album?  I'm talking way back in time - 1960s, 70s, 80s.

Now, why didn't I think of that?  All Things Must Pass.  In fact, I've always had that album.  Somehow I wasn't thinking of it that way.  Strange.

And yes, I've got the "Yessongs" album and the Woodstock album.  I don't know - maybe the Alzheimer's is starting to set in.

There’s probably not too many artists who have done a triple album of new original material. Most seem to be live albums or compilations.

Smashing Pumpkins did a double CD which when rendered to vinyl was a triple album. The Clash’s Sandinista also comes to mind. And of cause George’s Magnum opus. Although  that was a bit of a fiddle with the third album being just jams.

The mere thought of a triple Yes album fills me with dread.

Considering the famous 62-66 Red and 67-70 Blue albums, is there ANY other act who have ever produced a best selling QUADRUPLE album set of "greatest hits"...

and STILL not had room for numerous gems?

The Rolling Stones best-selling US Hot Rocks and More Hot Rocks. Four albums of material yet still missing Yesterday's Papers, Love In Vain and Little Red Rooster

Wasn't The Band's The Last Waltz a triple album?

Iron Maiden - The Book Of Souls
Paul McCartney - Tripping The Live Fantastic
Wings Over America.

Some albums by Prince and Rush. Zappa.
