If they'd have carried on...
« on: December 05, 2005, 11:12:27 AM »

What do you think the group would have been like if they'd have carried on into the seventies?

I for one belive that they could possibly have lasted a couple more albums before they'd have started to sound like Super Tramp, after that I don't think their music would have been so relevant to the times.

What do you think?

So very hard to know! If their success depended on chemistry, they might have continued to be very great. But, I have a feeling that you might be correct.

Good songs are always good songs and they made GREAT songs in the 70s in their solo careers and some good songs in the 80s (specially Paul and some George). I'm sure they would be a great band, perhaps not the best each year but on the top of the charts and their tours would be bigger than the Rolling Stones' or U2 or Pink Floyd (look Paul's -and without the others-, so imagine...)

I think they would have filled stadiums like no other band all around the world!

Yes. If John had lived, I feel sure that by now him and Paul would have drifted together at some point. If not to reform the Beatles (George wasn't so keen on that), then at least maybe a Lennon/McCartney project, with the albums entitled precisely that. There's a real precedent for it in The Ballad Of John And Yoko!

George wasn't so keen on that... depending of the moment you ask him.   :)  If they'd have carried on I think he would be there with the others. After all, nobody (forgeting the economic problems Ringo'd got) forced him to do the Anthology or to record those wonderful guitars in Free As A Bird and Real Love.  8)

They'd be making an album like "Venus & Mars" in the mid-70s that's for sure.

Agreed. Don't know if it's because Pauls influence was so strong at the end, but it's easier imagining Macca's mid-early 70's efforts as a basis for a Beatle album than it is Johns. I can't imagine Paul contributing to a Walls and Bridges type album (maybe)

What does this photo suggest to you?
At first sight, I would swear that it was taken after the famous photographic session
in Tittenhurst (08/22/1969) but it seems to be spring.
Look at that smiling Paul. Yes, he brings a magnifying glass to examine the small letter of the contract.
It would be very important ... 'If they'd have carried on...'

My husband and I have talked about this we think they would've gotten more deep rock like Deep Purple, you know how they did the song Come Together, they would've gone on to be more rock like that, I sure hope they wouldn't have gone disco! Lol!!

Yep, he was lost by that time (most of the 70s, in my opinion) ... none of the others went disco ... but who knows? ... Paul influded them a lot ... tho I think that the formula during the 70s would have been a Guy album per year and solo works too ... so they would have been mainstream ... as mainstream as the 70s were!  ;D

I think John came close with Whatever Gets You Through The Night - can't stand that track!

Didn't Ringo do a disco album, 'Bad Boy' or something like that?
